• Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
  • We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.

Seems that the CoTI forum activity...

...has dwindled the last months. I don't know if this is really the case, but it feels the number of new posts are getting fewer and fewer, at least in the MT and TNE forums (my fav versions of the game). When I joined CoTI there always was something new to read and discuss, but now it's...well...quiet...

Where is everyone? Mongtravelling? Facebooking? T5:ing?

Sad thing, if this excellent forum would just fade away...

Just an observation

:( Well, T5 has cut into my MT time...

And the MGT fans are probably in secret location plotting their takeover of the Traveller universe...

In fact, it was my thought that it actually seems to be starting to actually pick up around here.

Not that there aren't issues, but it is my hope that very shortly, some of those long-term issues that have been holding CotI back will be resolved, and the Short Nap will end.

You want Long Night, try being an MT fan during the TNE heyday. The CT fans blamed MT for TNE, the TNE fans considered MT so much discarded garbage... no love for the Mega

Speaking for my self

The spring and summer months are my busiest as a Farmer and This year I am running for a County elected position.

I have not even had much time to read the forums let alone post regularly

I don't know if there's a post counter somewhere, but I don't think this forum is drying up. It seems to me to get about the same number of posts has it always (at least, as long as I've been here) has.

Is there an easy way to count posts somewhere?

Might be that some people are migrating to a different board. Also, I know I've waiting for T5 to come out. Haven't had too much creativity this summer. Been working on my Trucker's Tan, too (i.e. been working too much).

Well, I have been busy editing my fabulous 4th Ed Megatraveller rulebooks. Now that the Referee's Manual is done, I am hard at work on the Players Manual.

Still getting activity on 25-50 threads per day pretty steady. The only places I don't read are the T5 "playtest" area (since I didn't preorder T5).

So, no, your observation is wrong.

You may be wrong, Anders, but you're not going mad. I feel that there are not as many posts as there were, too. My feeling is that it never picked up after Christmas.

I find I'm quickly skimming down the list and noting that forum after forum has had no hits in the best part of a week, and the ones that are busy seem to be hosting flame wars or petty bickering.

The only forum that seems to be thriving is the Pit (which I don't visit - I don't come here to dicuss politics, I come here to discuss Traveller). Maybe that's where the majority of the 25-50 threads per day are?

Three people I'm aware of have left - or say they've left - in the last ten days alone, and if there is a common perception (right or wrong) that CotI is sliding down a slippery slope, they won't be the last.

May I suggest that instead of arguing about whether the perception is real, we each take a few minutes out today and think of a good topic or two that we can post about? Something that will encourage participation, but discourage argument.

If there's a problem, let's solve it instead of discussing it or ignoring it - if there's no problem, some extra posts won't do any harm.

Could it be that the torch has been passed from T20 to MGT and so the focus of discussion has shifted elsewhere? Perhaps that and the, sometimes nasty, intense back and forth over MGT during playtest and subsequently just turned people off?

All boards go through peaks and troughs. Some people have (understandably) moved to the Mongoose site, but COTI is still very healthy.

I think that maybe the traffic is the same, but the topics have shifted.

It's been a while since we've had some real heat in the Classic forum. I'm not playing CT at the moment, so I haven't been posting there (gasp, I'm playing a non-Traveller game!).

I find I'm quickly skimming down the list and noting that forum after forum has had no hits in the best part of a week, and the ones that are busy seem to be hosting flame wars or petty bickering.

So, maybe the hits are the same, but what's being discussed doesn't interest you as much?

That would make one feel like traffic is lighter than it really is--if one wasn't interested in what was being discussed.

Well, Supplement Four, I think that you may be right. Probably activity has moved to other areas of the forum, areas I usually don't read and participate in.

I guess I'll have to browse around to see where the "action" is...

Noob

For what its worth I am new around here, and coming in from the cold after more than 20 years. Yes I am going to go with MGT, I read the bitter posts here and elsewhere. Flame wars and bitter disagreements are old hat.:nonono:

I have been spending a lot of time reading, and have resurrected a few threads, well yeah, and many more that I have ideas for and might sprinkle some pixie dust on.

Getting down off the soapbox so someone else gets a turn.

Keep it coming. We've all been there/done that, to one degree or another!
