Serenity

A few thoughts.
  1. Low Tech interplanetary drives bringing up tonnage. But most designs are for our traveller universe.
  2. Traveller universe: adding jump drives and fuel.
  3. A lot of empty cargo space. I really don't see the volume in a freetrader. Serenity has never filled that hold.

Or a combination of the above...

Except the one time when they transported contraband cattle, Episode "Safe".

In other words... she's not "running", she's "chasing" Mal... until she accepted that his problems keep him from accepting her, then she went back to the House.

Nah, or rather, yah, but her reasons for leaving were different. She's dying, and wants to see the 'Verse before she's gone...

The deckplans apparetly give serenity the tardis effect... they match the inside shots, but not the outside shots.

And going by measuring outside shots, one comes up with a smaller ship.

Yeah. The deck plans in the Serenity RPG are right for the tonage listed in the game, but probably half the size of the sets in the show. But TV sets are always much larger than needed for real life to make space for camera work.

Assuming the hold is intended to be filled. Like some military transports it may be designed to carry bulky objects. I think the open set of TV has obscured some of the real sizes and therefore the RPGs. The cabin's seem tighter... than a free trader. Well I'd say a sub merchant.. maybe a bit bigger but not much.

Traveller designs don't always have the imagination of TV. Hence my interest in blending.

All that means is that it fits in perfectly with other Traveller ships like the fat trader, bigger inside than outside, sorta like an extra dimensional space or hold.
:D

OK, I've had the Serenity dvd for quite a while, now, but I just bought the "Firefly the complete series" set.

Since I never saw it while it was on the telly (ever, not even re-runs), it will all be new to me (I have watched my Serenity dvd once, though).

What was Book before he became a shepherd?
Lets just say he tried atoning for his sins with religion and found that religion alone will not clean his hands. But no, he was not an operative and he does have a past that is known. It is just that no one in the current 'verse would believe is is "that person".

Will Mal always run?

No, you just have not seen much of what he would stand against and what will make him stand even when alone... But Mal knows he will die alone when he does die.

Why is Inara running? And what is she running from?
Even a house of gold, and filled with riches, can be a prison. When you become the one who solves everyone else's problems you lose your life to that position...
There is a freedom in being houseless :D

Some day Joss will feel better about what happened and take that particular pen up. til then, them as knows will honor his privacy.

It's fun. Watch it in writing order, not airing order.

Consideirng the morons at Fox aired "Train Job" first and did not air the pilot except as a "gift to the few fans they had" after offially cancalling the project....

Mind you, that is weighed against Universal's failure to fully carry out their agreement to run the Serenity trailers properly as agreed, thus lowering the likely numbers of Non-Firefly fans being brought in and guaranteeing Joss would make enough to trigger his promise to release a "Straight to DVD" Serenity II...

But it is all thrust out the engines...

I saw it, and really enjoyed it. Oddly enough it's the background stuff you don't "see" that makes it interesting.
Who are the blue hand men?

why is River crazy?

How did Mal lose his faith?

Questions about unknown things that never were addressed in the shortened series but make wonderful background.
mal lost his faith in the war because of all the people he saw die and because of the battle of serenity Valley he simply lot his faith because of all the horror he witnessed. if you have been to a battle (modern or otherwise) you have an idea of what i mean. and book i think was like an secrete agent or one of the none existing people? blue hands well i think they are the BA near last resort men:confused:? ok river in serenity the doc said "striping of neural...(help me its the limbotic system) something fragments there reality matrix" so with all the added hypnosis(in that chair) it caused her to lose here reality like on the ship when thought was in a forest and picked up a gun! mal i think hes run almost all his life and cant stop ie. owning a ship. inara I HAVE no clue with inara . anyway thats my option.

As for Book, In the pilot he took the Fed down hand to hand and disarmed him. It was done very quickly like a professional. In War Stories he handled his weapon and combat in a almost military manner. He also knew lots of things he should not. Then there is Books ID in the Safe episode.

He was either a Fed or a oprative on the losing side who went to ground.

Found this link on Shepherd Book, pretty interesting read. And yeah, my money is on him having been an Alliance operative of some type.

I suspect he's a retired Alliance SpecOps officer, with a powerful family. And he genuinely found religion. I suspect he's not been in the monastery all that long, perhaps since the end of the war. Maybe 5-6 years when he joins aboard the Serenity.
