as book 2 vector movement is almost impossible to implement, range bands seem adequate for simple rpg work.
Yet, Mayday, Brilliant Lances, and Battle Rider all have vector movement.
All do it on a conventional hex map. BL is higher resolution (with 12 facings rather than 6) than BR or Mayday.
And if they can do it on a conventional hex map, then if you want finer resolution, you can do it on a table top using the same scale as the map with counters and a ruler.
Hex maps are nice because they're very easy to float.
