Shipping is _how_ much?

I was just on my jolly way to order the book through your webpages, when I noticed the shipping cost:

almost 18 Dollars for simple surface shipping.

Having done some heavy worldwide ebay buying recently, I think this is quite a lot more than shipping form the US to Europe actually costs (checking the boxes I got recently confirms that).

Sorry, but with these shipping costs, I`ll have to pass! :(

QLI's shipping to the UK is a bit of a mystery to me. They insist it's right, however many people raise the issue, but for surface post it's always around double what Amazon.com or a vast horde of eBayers charge for airmail.

And since I presume they get ~100% of the cover price immediately when selling direct, while ~40% up to a year later is common for books sold though game stores...

If you wait a while, it will probably show at http://www.leisuregames.co.uk/ who will have a reasonable price and shipping charge.

For parcel post, the shipping rate is about right according to the USPS website. Assuming that the book + package weighs about 2 lbs 8 oz, the USPS website comes up with $23 for shipping (box not included).

That being said, parcel post is more expensive than letter post. I believe that letter post allows for small packages/boxes (length < 24", length + height + depth < 36").

I highly doubt that QLI is trying to make money off the shipping, though it's possible that they might be able to use a smaller box and use letter post rather than parcel post.

Like Ron, I don't think that QLI is trying to make any money on shipping costs (Hunter's recent Droyne and K'Kree post shows it's not that kind of company!), but I do think that maybe they could look into using other companies to ship books worldwide.

Just a quick update on my post. For a package to qualify for letter post (air or surface), the total weight needs to be 4 lbs or less and the length needs to be less than 24", and the length + height + depth needs less than 36".

Ron

PS: I have sold a number of old things (books and toys) to people overseas on eBay, and the shipping can be surprisingly expensive unless the package qualifiees for letter post or global priority mail, flat rate envelope.

A while back I think a mention was made in a similar thread that insurance or somesuch figured into the cost for outside the US. But yeah I'm all for them pursuing other shipping options if that means cheaper shipping cost for similar service. ^_^
