So... what about the Spinward Marches book?

What I like most about the new spinward marches book

The biggest and best adventure hook is that mgt spinward marches does NOT include the fifth frontier war,and most of the events leading up to it. That means you can run your players through the fifth frontier war. (And it's High time you younger grognards got a crack at fighting the Joes!)

And now I fully expect you to use the MGT Spinward Marches book to GIVE the younger grognards in your group a crack at the Joes! ;)

so Zhodani = (P)Joe-dan-ee? I have always called them Zhodani =(p)Zoe-dane-ee for the last couple of decades. imagine my embarassment at have been so wrong for so long :p

Not quite, but in war, mispronouncing the enemy's name is a given.

The "zh" is pronounced like the 's' in "measure", so its right in the middle between the 'j' and 'z' zounds.

I personally go with what Gypsy said - and would add that sometimes the mispronounciation is deliberate... :eek:o:

I own both MgT:TSM and GT:BtC and the former is the better book, in my opinion. The GURPS version is not terrible, but it's problematic in a number of respects, including the abandonment of UWPs and a text riddled with errors and inconsistencies for reasons mentioned above. OTOH, it is the only book on the Marches the covers literally every mainworld in some level of detail, so if that's what you want, it may be worth getting. There's no way I'd pay $50 for it, though.

The MgT iteration, however, gives you a very nice writeup on the basics of the setting and the Marches, then spins down into each subsector to a nice level of detail without filling in every litle crack. MgT:TSM gives me a lot more breathing room as a GM, while still giving me a nice astropolitical background to hang stuff on.

Also, MgT:TSM is set in 1105 - the Classic Era. This suits my personal preferences best, and it also happens that I have a great deal of CT-era material that can be dropped in with basically no effort.

Both books have been written by the same author, but I agree that his MGT
version is the more useful one for most campaigns set in the Spinward Mar-
ches.
The 50,- USD seem a bit high for the GURPS Traveller version, over here it
can be had for as little as about 12,- USD, like most of the old GURPS Tra-
veller books.

Without going into the politics of what happened, the original UWPs from Supp3 were required by Marc to be used, even though there were several later versions that were available (like the SMC).

I was a little dismayed that the stellar data and the PBG number wasn't given in the UWPs. I hope any new MGT sector books aren't done like that.

I don't have it and really, as I have multiple version of the marches, sort of don't need it.

But I plan to get it anyways. Why? Because Martin wrote it, and after consuming his great T20 stuff and the stuff he wrote for Avenger/Comstar, he really knows how to make Traveller hum in a way that I don't think any other author currently writing for it does.

Really, I'm sad I missed Starfall cluster.
