SOC-13
Did I do this correctly? I tried out the point system for a new character and it seemed to make a super powerful guy.
60-point (6-term)
I decided on the Navy. I set at the stats at 696995 (17 points, one more than the minimum required)
The young looking Captain signaled to the bartender to have the bot bring over another drink and looked around the table. “Well, since this is my last day in the Navy I should tell you how I got here.” Several people in the club quieted down and leaned into towards the table.
“My family were technicians on an industrial world. We were on top of the lower class, but low class none the less. I studied hard trying to gain a promotion to engineer assistant or foreman class. I took university level classes—had to sit in the back but I took them. I ended up being trained in sensor operations at factory complex E-105-A11.” (Sensors-1, 2 points)
“About the time I got out of training I realized I was never going to be more no matter what I did. That was the same day the recruiter was on a sweep. Eight weeks later I was learning how to clean and stand at attention. The Chief in charge of my draft was actually nicer and cared more about us than the foreman class had at home. He put me in for sensor ops on a ship. I was sent to ground security school.” (Gun Combat (Pistol)-1, 2 points, 21 total spent)
“My leading PO found out that I had sensor training and had me ‘help’ the assigned tech on upgrading the entry control point sensors. At first I was working too fast but after a quiet talking to we got the job done exactly on time and exactly right. I made Able out of that and picked up quite a bit of repair skill.” (Promotion and Mechanic-1, 2 points, 23 total spent)
“I was mostly off the watch schedule ‘helping with the sensors’. The day I got put back on the back gate as the senior crewman I was still new enough to follow the checklist to the letter. That was the same day the IG was running an unannounced ORI on us. My gate ‘Served as an example to the entire command’ as the report put it. I got promoted to PO3 and sent to the high port after quite a bit of additional shipboard and boarding ops security school.” (Promotion and Vacc-1, plus Gun Combat (Energy)-1, 4 points, 27 total spent).
“No sooner had I checked in to the high port than the el-tee wanted to know if I was interested in OCS. Seems the Admiral read the ORI and at an officer’s call asked why I hadn’t been offered the school yet…The hardest part, believe it or not, was learning how to eat properly and how to use a blade like a gentleman.” (Commission and Melee (Blade)-1, 2 points, 29 total spent)
“In an unusual example of the Navy sending a round peg to a round hole, I was sent to the Pantheress as 3rd assistant security officer mostly in charge of the internal sensors and paperwork. My roommate was the 5th assistant admin officer, and had been an Admin Chief. He also liked me and the fact that I kept our room stocked with booze at no cost to him. My paperwork was flawless and I was the first non-noble in my OCS class promoted.” (Promotion and Leadership-1, Admin –1, 4 points, 33 total spent)
“One night that Captain had me to dinner and offered me a chance to try out for a lateral to the Bridge Crew. We were on a long sweep with lots of time to train an officer. By the end of the voyage I fit in rather well at both sensor management and communications work. I also got promoted again.” (Promotion to Lt, Comm-1, 4 points, 37 total spent)
“I got sent to formal Bridge Crew School as soon as the ship got to the Depot for refitting. Coming out of the school, as the non-noble honor grad, I was assigned to the Azhanti High Lightning—yes, that one. I was on short time frame orders and ended up dashing in a courier and still missed the ship’s departure for a long term assignment in the Rift.” (Astro-2, Pilot (Spaceship)-0, 5 points, 42 spent total)
“I caught up with the ship, and the Captian quite nicely sat me down and told me he had quite enough Bridge Crew, and both the Astrogater and his Assistant were nobles. He was kind enough to offer me the job of small craft OIC. Ahhh…no. I wasn’t in charge of the fighters, they had their own COs. I was 'in charge' of the 400 ton multi purpose shuttles.”
“Anyone served on one of those old beasts? The shuttles are always on the go. If my men weren’t hauling supplies or crew to liberty, we were skimming fuel. Each shuttle was twice as big as the average free trader, but the Navy said they were shuttles so we had Chief’s in charge.”
“I was in that job until I got promoted off the ship. I also learned a lot. I got sent to department head school when my name came out for Commander. That school would have come in handy five years before…” The young Captain signaled for another drink. (Promotion and Tactics (Naval)-1, Pilot (Starship) up to-3, 6 points, 48 total spent)
“They gave me a Light Rift Cruiser, the old Jabeline. She was 100 years past her prime but could still make J-5. We broke up a pirates base my fourth year in command, and that’s where I got all the prize certificates. I also got selected for Captain my first year I was eligible. I went to the O-5 school where they really trained me what fork to use, and how to bow and shake hands correctly.” (Promotion and Soc to A, 2 points, 50 total spent)
“Then I got sent to Depot security instead of another command, and I stayed there year after year and timed out on my promotion window to flag officer. The Depot Admiral was kind enough to put me in for TAS and got me the knighthood I am getting tomorrow. Me, a Knight…..”
Purchased 5 rolls, 60 points total, plus three bonus rolls, all at +1. One roll of +2 Soc downgraded to +1 to fit the character, TAS, Four Total Ship Shares, TAS again converted into Weapon, 35k total cash.
Anagathics were rolled at 4 x 2,500 =10k x 2 terms = minus 20k
