Space Crew Too High In Traveller?

What's your Stimulant/Depressant of Choice IYTU? Do you assume that mankind brings his hooch to the stars, or do your Travellers do what no man has done before?

(I just couldn't not post the question once the title flashed on me, sorry.)

Good Nyborg, man...

Alcohol is common, and will remain so wherever humans have been taken, since human edible foods will be edible by human carried yeasts. If it has sugars, it likely will be able to be fermented to something almost drinkable.

Anything which results in quiet introspective behavior will be popular aboard ship.

Actually, Fritz, I doubt highly than lowering of inhibitions will be that popular aboard ship, due to the extreme risks aboard ships.

The still's in the engine room, hidden behind the jump drive.

:)

An engineering officer, on refitting a large vessel (20KdTon) arranged for a 20 dTon emergency fuel replenishment mechanism and organic-based cellular storage mechanism. Or in other words a compact whiskey distillery and oak barrel farm. This was also to minimise anyone else wanting to make a still, with the contamination and OHSE issues that raises. Alchohol can be useful for a variety of medical and fuel purposes. You can drink it as well.

Otherwise IMTU drugs tend towards the synthetic. No empire wide prohibition, though some systems would have prohibition/control of various chemicals. Synthetic for storage reasons more then anything else, keeps longer in a more compact space. This is balanced by harsh treatment of anyone going on duty at less then 100% by choice.

An engineer drunk on duty is subject to spacing. An engineer drunk off-duty is par for the course. An engineer called on duty unexpectedly is expected to become as sober as possible as quickly as possible.

In another campaign there was a speciality pharmaceutical engineer able to build up close to anything on demand. He'd been DD'd from the navy for selling on board ship.
