Star Ship "Floor Plans"

As I originaly said I was working on a deck plan based on the Free Trader illostration from the T20 play-test rules, well I finaly got it done and posted
. What took so long was well it's not just one deck plan, there are 2 Free Traders and a Far Trader based on the first Free Trader. All three have good points and bad points, and some interesting querks for PCs to work with or around as the case may be.
Have fun.

Oh yah - see my sig for the web site.

No, I don't have any imedeate plans to do a Corsair, but I was thinking of doing the one from the "Space Dogs" adventure by BITS. Currently I am working on a corrected "Ad Astra" liner, some launch variants, a corrected "Empress Marava" far trader, and the Bel Geddes #4, a truly fantastic luxury air-liner from the late 1920s, it never built but very cool.

Speaking of the Bel Geddes #4 I have diagrams of decks 5, 7, and 9 has anyone ever seen any plans for the other decks? See this site for all the info I have;
http://home.att.net/~dannysoar/BelGeddes.htm

After I finish the deck plans for the original I intend to do a Traveller version.

I'm looking forward to seeing that. Even before I noticed your last comment, I had decided this design was imminently stealable for Traveller. Heck, just put fuel in the lower decks and you're set.

I've not seen more drawings. If they exist anywhere, I expect the University of Texas at Austin is the place to look. They seem to ahve an extensive file of Bel Geddes' work materials.

It might be worth a call to the library. Or maybe someone in the Austin area could help you out.

</font>[/QUOTE]According to http://www.hrc.utexas.edu/research/fa/belgeddes.hp.html they have 700 boxes of documents and 99 flat file drawers! Airliner #4 is job 328 and includes Airliners 1, 2, & 3 as well. Five years of work. It says the files are open for research.

Hey, Peter. Want to make a run down to Austin one of these days?

Tom, thank you for the direction I will certainly try them. :D

Alternity's supplement, Starships, has numerous deckplans that could probably be adapted. It has everything from fighters to bulk freighters to passenger liners to small capital ships. It's out of print, but isn't too hard to find.

It's also available in PDF format as an ESD here for $4.74 USD. Note I've not downloaded it yet so I've no idea how the scanning quality is, but the recent ESD releases I have bought weren't too bad.

The Alternity Starships book suffers, from a Traveller POV, from a bit too much of the "Flash Gordon" effect. Really odd structures, a shifting deck scale, and very odd technology makes a numnber of the deckplans a starting point, but not a lot else.

Slightly better, but a bit harder to find, would be the book "Stock Ships" for the original (D6) version of the Star Wars RPG. (Note that either the Shatterzone or SpaceMaster games had a book by the same name that is absolutely useless, so be careful if you web-shop).

The (very) occasional appearance of deckplans for D20 Star Wars can also be useful. They are few and far between, though.

Based on the examples I've seen, the deckplans so far published for DragonStar are worthless for Traveller except as wierd alien artefacts found floating in space.

Two sets of deckplans published for the Fading Suns setting are also "Approved for use with Traveller." As long as you assume the fuel is on a deck "not depicted" and that all marines/ship troops can sleep in their chairs for the whole trip, these might be vaguely useful...

SJG's GURPS: Traveller efforts (and the Classic Reprints) aside, the web is your best bet at the moment until Hunter decides to do his own version of Traders and Gunboats...
