Starships

MODULAR CUTTERS (ATV Cradle)
One of the important aspects of the Broadsword class design is the wide variety of auxiliary vessels which may be procured for the ship. As procured, the ship is furnished with two 50-ton cutters and a total of four 30-ton interchangeable modules. Cutter wells within the ship store the two small craft and the modules for transport; proper selection can give the cruiser a broad span of capabilities.

Cutters do not normally carry names; they are numbered as decimals (.I, .2, etc) after the ship's registration number. Under most operational circumstances, the cutters use the name of the ship followed by their decimal digit; for example, the first cutter for Broadsword would call itself Broadsword One. Cutter modules are identified by adding a second digit, creating Broadsword One Two for example.

What is this?

There is a device that I have never seen before and do not know how to use in the image of Adventure 7 Broadsword, pp.23. Does anyone know what this device is?

The text of LBB A7, p23 is mostly "not relevant" to the context of the image.

My personal best guess is that you're looking at some kind of wreckage recovery/salvage operation on a vacuum world surface (hence the vacuum suits). The starship is landed with troops marching out of an airlock on the left side of frame. In the center foreground a fire team of troops are scouting the area to set up a perimeter. The mound they're marching over has been impacted (see crater on the right). Whatever crashed here is in broken pieces just over the crest of the hill, where a recovery team is gathering up wreckage.

The item you're referring to in the image looks like some kind of "broken off landing gear pylon" that would have belonged to some other ship that presumably crashed here. Alternatively, it could be an above surface access point to an underground installation that is now something of an abandoned ruin.

The ship's air/raft is visible above the "equator" line of the starship between the center and left pylons in the image. Although it is not clear in this image, I would imagine that the air/raft is being used for overwatch and survey around this location.

My overall impression of the story/narrative context of what you're looking at is that "something BAD happened here" and the troops of this particular Broadsword class ship are fanning out to secure the site, gather up evidence and try to work out what occurred. You're looking at (space) infantry recon.

As for exactly what THIS might be ...

index.php

... I have no useful idea. My best guess is that it's an intact piece of something else that is no longer intact, but that's about as far as I can go.

I think it is some sort of heavy weapon.

Possibly a part of:
7. Weapons Module. A self-powered, independent weapons mount with the
ability to be fitted with a variety of weapons. This module is typically used to
provide close support for the ship's ground troops. Equipped with a computer
Model1 for fire control and a triple laser turret. MCr8.

Years ago I apparently used Visio for a cross-section view of a corridor. Apparently randomly dropping symbols :)

Well Chief, unless you are in a really little ship, most likely there won't be any Tanks under the floor. Kinda, traps for liter and dust maybe, probably linked to Life Support return...

Also note Waste water tanks will trend to be larger than fresh water supply tanks....

perhaps they are just conduits to the big tanks. I'm a software guy - the real world is a mystery to me!

I have tanks either hydrogen or water in between the outer hull and first interiors as ersatz radiation shielding. Big internal tanks are for jump, both to avoid radioactive contamination and rapid pumping to the jump drive.

Containers Comparison

I show you a comparison of 2dt, 4dt, and 8dt containers. The 8dt container is loaded on an Grav Trailer.

Considering that the hull is made up of 1.5m squares, the standard width and height are 3m, however the thickness of the floors and walls of the cargo hold and the extra space for handling must be taken into account.

For this reason, the size of the 8dt container is 11.8m x 2.8m x 2.8m, which is slightly larger than the 40ft container.
