Stat this miniature, if you like.

I’m a miniature collector, whom can’t draw, so I’m forced to hunt for miniatures and adapt them to my Traveller game. I found a few drawings and miniatures from the Battletech space game, that could be used with some success in a Traveller game. So I thought I get some feed back on this ship miniature with the accompanying technical read out, stat sheet, and artwork from what was FASA. I know using the original length and stats from the technical readout is useless for Traveller, but I thought you all might like to see the artwork.

It looks to me to be about 200 meters long, maybe 6 decks, I figure its about 3000 tons. I thought it would make a good frontier trader, long range explorer class ship?

Sounds like a great idea that ought to be expanded to other BT spaceship minis that could do double duty for Traveller. I have that Soyuz class cruiser that looks like it could be a Destroyer or Destroyer Escort for Traveller.

If the forward section is seen as a bridge, you could also reinterpret the size to get to about 100 dtons and make a good scout varient out of it.

The BT original, at over half a kilometer long, is probably outside the Traveller range.

The mini could be just about any size, though.

Yeah, Newbee, I figured that front part looked like a cockpit window and estimated the length at around 20 metres. Sorry, Bishop Odo, this isn't really getting you your stats, is it?

No biggie, Icosahedron, after all getting the scale is kind of the first step, then working back wards so to speak, also I need to get a few more pics of the nose and tail.

If I am remembering my Battletech correctly, that is a mini for a dropship. With that being said the scale of the ship would be about 300 - 500dT max. If this is the dropship I am thinking of (the name escapes me right now) it is used to transport aerospace fighters (small craft) from a jump point to the battlefield.

Here's a thinking out loud idea.

With no visual references you could not tell how big a ship was at first glance. So what looks like a 100 tons scout might be a 2000 ton destroyer with the bridge painted 3 decks high on the outside. The paintjob could give the optical illusion of a different sized ship. Of course instruments would tell the real story but there might be situations where it could fool you.

A ballpark figure for the displacement (based on a length of 500 meters) is 125 m x 125 m x 500 m = about 500,000 dTons.

But I agree that it would probably be better to just scale it down.

No, not the Minerva. There WAS dropship or two based on the Minerva, but that was a LOT smaller and much closer in appearance. The Minnie *might* get to 8 ktons or so, given the amount of stuff carried, but could be as small as 1000 tons once you lose the need for BT-style mechs and go back to the two fighters and a tank or three. I might argue that the Minnie needs to be a bit bigger just based on the missile bay it pops, but a frugal PC could just assume a turret cluster...

The Baron works quite well as a hull form for a 1 to 5 kton ship, which keeps it in the deckplans range as well.
