Still gets me

I was rattling around and came across the Beowulf Mayday again, it still gives me the shivers, just like it did back in '77. Got to be one of the finest cover blurbs ever to pitch a game. It's what got my best friend to buy a copy, and brought Traveller into my life, may he rest in peace. Kinda miss my little black box of goodies from time to time, just like I miss him.

Well.....as to covers, a few from Paranoia come close. Um and Hole too.

Never used it in a campaign launch, but I've been tempted to.

Agreed classic that!
That is truly one of Traveller's iconic images for me, well done simple effective bold. An adventure just wondering how, why, where. Classic!

After i did up my first MGT ship for the design specification (the frontier scout was a fall back actually: average manning? check. parts supply? check. Foreven, right? well we got fuel to go most anywhere. To the Stars!) getting frustrated cause i couldn't make a J1 100 tonner, or 1G 10 tonner (hellp! lifeboat!), all happy i squeezed in 8 stats in a 100t J2 vessel, goin OMG! at the 3 pilot crew requirement for average manning, the need for pemg (thank god for luxuries) at *minimal* to carry passengers, anyhow 6 medium passengers I'm like, sweet! this should net a ton. Check the costs and revenues wha?! I get like 375Cr/ton carrying passengers versus 1kCr/ton standard freight. Oh and looks like say 3 passengers is pushing it anyhow. Oh and less freight. But infinite speculative cargo. Um...

*what's* a reglar missile do damage wise? oh multiwarhead d6xd6?! (looking up 9 damage (2 hits), 36 damage (Triple hit, double hit) (!) yow!) checking damage tables... 3D6, 3D6x6, 6D6, 8D6, 12d6 (!) uh oh!

Poor Beowulf, guess that minimal manning got him, or that he didn't have (the mandatory?) dedicated spare parts to operate for more than a month (annual maintenance my &&^^!). Maybe he added in fuel refining and armor (it's all the rage from the looks of it: you too can be immune to lasers!) but sheesh, tryin to actually take passengers somewhere, what was he thinking? Heck they don't even let you out of the port anymore (law level) or even land! (ditto) Then again maybe he got hit by a stray shot somehow, looks decidedly deadly out there. then again maybe he met something with laser-immune armor, so the outcome was... inevitable

<krshhh> Gashimeku Kaalariin ! ! ! <krshh>

Man did they do a number on the poor ol' free trader. Bad enough it didn't work in CT, now it's even worse!

Absolutely. Its totally classic and work in any setting and any time period. Firefly episode Bushwacked is pretty much FTB. Star Trek has countless episodes like that. Babylon 5/Crusade where the Excal came across the alien ship exposed to space has that. And the list just keeps on growing.

The blurb, and the box.

There's something about it. The proportions, the art. It just says "There's an infinite universe inside, full of adventure." I can't let it just sit on my desk, it's too much of a distraction.

Marc used to have a windows media player that played the soundclip on his old website...it was one of the more interesting things there...maybe he might resurrect it with t5 but I have my doubts.

For I think it was Hunter who designed his site. As there was a break when this site suddenly looked better and when Far Future declined. But maybe the two are coinstances. Maybe, the waybackmachine captured the clip too...if not write to Marc.
