Strategic vs Tactical Battles

Can one (or more) of you give me an example of a battle where the strategic map is used at the same time as the tactical map? I find the book's lack of examples to be less than fulfilling in some areas. (My other pet peeve in that arena is that the example characters in both the main book and in T20 Lite are single-classed throughout their careers...how much agony *THAT* would have saved....but I digress.)

And correct me if I'm wrong - you'd only have the mixed scale situation if there are ships in close "knife fighting" as well as more distant ones? I.e., a two-ship battle will change scales if the vessels enter a common strategic hex, but will never use mixed scale? Or am I missing something?

You will used mixed maps at the same time only when there are more than two opponents. I really wouldn't recommend using the mixed maps if at all possible because it can be confusing. Partly because as the distance scale changes, so does the time scale.

This is not something I've ever used. I usually set the scale once for a combat, based upon what is involved (vehicles, ships, people, or the combination). Once something goes beyond the edge of the "tactical" map, combat is over. Or I'm using a more abstract chase system, where there is no map.
