Striker Armor to CT Armor: conversion

Hi all

I need some clarification on using Striker "armor" ratings for personal armor, so that I can convert them to CT equivalent.

Perfect example:

I am looking at the JTAS article that details the Tech Level 14 Vacc Suit. It says that this suit (which is a flexible soft suit) has a Striker Armor Rating of 7.

Ummm... ok. I look at Striker (because I have Striker, but I don't use it in actual gaming). Striker says that Cloth Armor is armor rating of 5. It says that Combat Armor is rating of 8.

Soooo... a TL14 Vacc Suit with armor rating of 7 is what in Classic Combat? Is it Cloth-2? Or should it be CombatArmor+1 ?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Mal,

One thing about Striker/AHL is that armor absorbs damage as opposed to making you harder to hit and weapons have a penetration value. Having said that though, the armor ratings are similar between CT and Striker/AHL so I would make it 2 "better" than cloth...

YMMV

Mal,

The CT armor for vacc suits varies. It depends on the suit.

Check out the vacc suit article in JTAS 9. Your standard Vacc Suit is considered as Cloth Armor. A TL 7 Heavy Duty Soft Suit, for example, is treated as Cloth-1. A TL 9 Hard Suit, though, is consdidered Combat Armor+1 or Mesh, whichever gives the better protection.

Vacc Suits come in all shapes and sizes and attachments and goodies. Some are hard. Some are soft. Some are bulky. Some are not. And, they're made from different materials, providing different protection levels, depending on the suit.
