Striker Book 3 DS 9 Tac Missiles

Morning all,

I am working through the Tac Missile design sequence and have a silly question.

Here is the scenario that popped into my head.

The military unit, Merc or regular, stock piled tac missiles and launchers. Over the years the equipment was upgraded and the original stuff was kept as part of the inventory. During combat the unit is forced to mix the old and new systems in order to survive.

Here is a better example based on the Hammer' Slammers series. The Slammers are supporting a local government against rebels and brought muntions with better guidance systems than the locals can manufacture. The officer leading the Slammers, without permission from the local commander, sent out combat cars on a scouting mission during a huge party on the base. The combat cars report that rebels are moving out from villages near the base. The Slammers' officer tries to get a fire mission using the more advanced muntions. Unfortunately, the munitions were locked up and the officer that had the keys was at the party. To further compicate the situation the base commander fires flares as part of the entertainment discovering that the combat cars are missing, several officers including the the artillery commander are part of the rebel movement, and the base commander gets assassinated.

The units' inventory has TL 6 through TL 9 tac missiles, guidance, and launchers.

Can the missile and launcher guidance system be of different tech level?

There isn't any reason not to do that, but I would say that it would be limited to staying within the original weight and volume limits of the missile. So if the upgrades increase the W/V of the missile then they don't "fit", if they are smaller or the same then they work.

Evening Sabredog,

Thanks for the reply and bring up the point about changing the weight and volume. To me changing weight and volume would be a new system not an upgrade.

I've decided to keep the design simple since my spreadsheet allows the missile components to be designed at different tech levels from the base tech level.
