The long-awaited Supplement 5-6: Vehicle Handbook is now shipping - and this is a big one for Traveller players! Penned by Colin Dunn (2300AD), the Vehicle Handbook has an all new construction system designed to be quick, easy and extremely flexible, with referees being able to design anything from a rickshaw to super heavy grav battle tanks in just a few minutes, while players will drool over all the customisation options. All future Traveller books will use this system and, to help you along, the book contains every vehicle that has appeared in the current edition of Traveller (including those from Judge Dredd, Hammers Slammers and other settings), updated to the new system - along with lots of brand new designs!

Goes without saying I will be leaving this book unpurchased for several months until other people have bought it and reviewed it. Based on past books I am certain it will have errors in it.

But the very words '(including those from Judge Dredd, Hammers Slammers and other settings)' don't fill me with much confidence that I will like it. I don't like my Traveller mixed with other settings.

Colin's name and the preview both appeal to me. Plus, I'm presently working on bringing a fairly massive accumulation of my own campaign material over from CT to Mongoose rules and book references right now. Among other things, vehicles and mass transit systems used to add flair and flavor to individual worlds or polities.

So this could be useful. I'll pick up a copy and post on it. I think you can pretty well be sure I won't be candy-coating my opinions. :D

Again, the preview looks very good (but then it should, right?), and what I've seen from Colin here has been rock solid. I'm hoping to be impressed. :)

Any word yet on some errata?
E.g. No crew requirements given for submersibles, pop up turrets have different prices on different pages, sample vehicles don't give their size (in spaces) or their chassis type, a size 10 vehicle can be either a large or a small e.g. ground vehicle (large should be 11-50, not 10-50 etc.)

No "Open Top" for aircraft precludes WWI-era biplanes...

Colin must be a brave man. Rulesets like this are one of those things that will never please everyone. The scope is so large that everyone will despair that their own, highly-specific portion is not catered for. (I'm including myself in this!!) ;) ;)

I *do* like the idea that the stated focus of the design rules is not on the minutiae of the components but on what the completed vehicle can do.

Oh, who am I kidding. I'm a sucker for vehicle & starship designs! I'll have to add this book to the birthday list.

;)

That is _exactly_ why we added the designer's notes on page 2 - seriously, if you feel something is missing or there is another way of doing things, type it up and send it in to us! The scope of this book is _massive_ and there will always be things to tweak and add - we will be coming out with (PDF of) Special Supplement 1: Biotech Vehicles in a few days, which is essentially the first bolt on to this book. Would love to do more!
