T20 Terms

I just got told by one of my players last night that his character has around 65 Terms Of Service. Yes, his character is almost a special NPC that we've been working on. Basically a Watcher - someone who's lived a long time (at this point, about 3500 years). But I thought everyone might be interested to know that that's how many Terms it takes to get to 20th level.

In my Kursis game I started with a 26 year old at level 6, two 30 year olds at level 7, and a 46 year old at level 9.

At level ~6, you hit the wall.

I'm guessing he means the point at which level increase in character generation becomes noticably slower.

"The Watcher" is a pretty extreme example, but he'd make an interesting NPC.

What level, for example, would "Grandfather" be? Once the Droyne character generation guidelines are published, it would be interesting to see how he'd turn out.

Just give him a 100 INT, that's +45 to all INT based skill checks. He'll just need a few levels to have the skill points to put into skills that you cannot use untrained. Of course, probably having lived a long time, he'll have quite a few levels in any classes. Then there's the Grandfather Prestige class, useable by only one character per species (humans haven't gotten theirs yet; or he was killed by a Neanderthal after creating fire... )

Actually, it's funny you should say that. I was thinking about making a Prestige Class called CogniSavant. All mental feats and psionics. Eidetic Memory, Lightning Calculator, etc... This would be to go along with this Watcher character. Holy cow! The guy has over 10 million Cr in mustering out benefits. A Lab Ship, a Scout Ship, I'm not even sure what else as we didn't get to talk too long the other night. We're working it as he finds records every 25 years or so of a child that died and takes up the persona of that person, leaves that new persona his estate, and fakes his death. I figure with an Intelligence of 25 (which now makes him an Epic character under the d20 rules - unless his character level has to be over 20 first) he can probably get away with it. He started out with a Intelligence of 20 as it is... We've been talking about having a prophesy of the second coming of Grandfather, and have it be this guy.

How many levels would Grandfather be? Let's see, 300,000 years old divided by 4 years per term is 75000 terms. Hold on, let me open up MS Excel and work this out... I'm kidding.

Now that's just sweet what my brain just thought of. How did Grandfather come about? This Watcher character was created from accident in genetic engineering. What if the Droyne actually created Grandfather? It's still a mutation, just an induced one, right? What if he was a genetic experiment gone bad, like Khan in the Star Trek series? And then he took over. He's always made to sound so benevolent until the Final War, but then there's the Final War to contend with. He's just got to be arrogant to want to kill his own children and grandchildren. Wow, I think I just figured out that Grandfather could be the Droyne version of Hitler or Stalin. That changes perspective a bit.

Remember that Grandfather went on his genocida war because he felt threatened, whereas Hitler and Stalin (at least at the start) both had ideologies (albeit screwed up ones), so I don't think the comparison is too solid.

And I do like the created mutation ideas...
