Just wanted to say thanks to Colin for providing a bit more detail on the eagerly anticipated upcoming game of 2320, specifically the 3-part project versus the final "glitz" product. And welcome back Hunter.

So, I'm assuming that with 2320 looking closer like it'll see the light of day, I was going to inquire of whether Colin might be proceeding with finalizing other 2320 era products? I'm not really much of a writer, but I was wondering what is involved with generating material for consideration in gaming?

Yes any new updates to the situation is much appreciated but I hope this thread will be a rant free one please.

Hunter and I are still discussing that. I will post more information once we finalize things.

Hunter, Colin, Ted, etc.
I haven't posted to the 2320 list but have been keeping an eye on developments as they went on.

Thank you for the update - I look forward to getting the new book. The early artwork that was posted here last year looked amazing. I probably won't get the installments as I am not a huge fan of PDFs but I know I will snap up the finished version ( and a hard copy when that becomes available).

To Hunter - No-one in business should have to put up with the kind of whining, sanctimonious bulls**t that has been levelled your direction particularly over the last couple of days. If I want to buy a car and it's late - I don't HAVE to buy the car - I can go and buy a different brand. If I buy it in installments with no guarantee that I will get all three parts - well, that's the risk I take - otherwise I wait for the completed version. WHAT I don't do - unless I am some sort of freak - is picket the factory screaming to anyone who will listen " the manufacturer said that this would be ready, and it isn't - and I want it to be - and I can't get him on the phone to whinge"

Only in the RPG industry could this kind of pettiness run unchecked. I have checked these boards every couple of days since joining, occasionally posted ( mostly MT ) and frequently came away thinking " there is NO WAY that I could exercise the kind of restraint that Hunter does when some lunatic with nothing better to do takes a potshot or five. A number of people on these boards have deserved banning on multiple occasions. A couple of them have left - multiple times, screaming defiance, only to return when they realised that they had nowhere else to go.

To Hunter,Colin,Ted, et al:

Publish your stuff - if it sucks - then you deserve to go under. If it's great - then I ( and, I suspect, the silent majority who are usually busy doing other things like having careers and getting on with life ) will buy it. What you do beyond that - and what schedule you maintain - is frankly none of my business.

Kind regards

RR.

Funny, I thought someone said that this thread should be rant free?

I really don't care if Hunter or anyone else (particularly not you) thinks I'm whining or that what I'm saying is sanctimonious bullshit. All I know is that Hunter's been sitting on my money for another product for over three years, that he's been extremely negligent in contacting authors and customers for the past year and a bit, that nothing's been moving and licenses have been lost because of that, and that it apparently took the actual license owner to give him a shove before he got anything moving again now. That is not an acceptable way to run a business, and certainly destroyed my faith in Hunter and in QLI as a customer. I sympathise with Hunter's personal problems but ultimately they really are not my concern, and I know a lot of people are pissed off over his disappearances and lack of communication here. If you don't think that any of that is worth getting pissed off about, then tough.

And most of the flameout on the 2320AD thread would have been avoided if Hunter hadn't reacted so hyperdefensively to my questions. All I did was ask if he could guarantee that he'd be around to finish the product, then he decided to take that as a personal affront and gave me some completely unecessary BS about how he's not required to do things solely for my benefit, which I hadn't even implied. And then it went downhill from there.

FYI, this kind of unprofessionalism could only actually happen in the RPG industry, where all too often people forget that this fun roleplaying thing they're doing on the side is actually a business too and that those people on the forums are actually paying customers, not friends or acquaintances who have unlimited patience.

I've said all I have to say about this. I just hope that 2320AD does get out of the door in the format that it deserves, and that Hunter really is back so he can devote as much time to sorting out QLI's problems as soon as possible and produce more material.

here, here for Roger & Reg. The most sane things said on the matter in recent days. As I've stated previously I waited ages for the Grand campaign for Pendragon...
... I didn't e-mail Greg Stafford and say "where the f--- is my book?"
Hunter... I, for one, am so glad you're back. I do think however you owe Colin a beer or two! I'm hoping to buy more traveller stuff from QLI now you're back (and everything for 2320) and I hope things can only get better for you.

Any chance of this now stopping and staying civil and rant free please ?
Use the PM system if need be.

Rant Free by request ( but I didn't really think the previous post qualified as a rant - I thought it was fairly measured in tone - but I will happily bow to the requests of other posters - after all, a lot of people come here )

Yeah - my group got it back in December - we're about eight sessions in now - and we're barely into Uther's time - this is going to run for years and years

I would love to see a long term campaign product like this for ANY version of Traveller - one was suggested (and advertised ) by DGP back in the MT days that dealt with a group of military types in stasis emerging at critical time periods in the history of the Imperium - if memory serves they were looking for a cure to whatever ailment they had contracted on their original mission - I assumed they were also waiting for TLs to advance. Can't recall the title at the mo and am in the office - still love the idea though.

Actually with 2320's TL architechture such a campaign may actually make more sense here than in the OTU.

Food for thought.

Much as I dislike to be seen even slightly agreeing with Mal (wry smile; we've agreed on a lot lately), there's something to be learned here.

The Long Silence HAS dented confidence in QLI, and even if Mal is the only one mentioning it (I'm not commenting on the posts here), I'm willing to bet that there are others whose confidence isn't 100%.

What needs to happen now is a steady steam of product, kept promises and timely releases. THAT will restore confidence in a way that words can't.

In the end, all we can ask for is to be judged on our actions.

I do think that it's worth seeing the negative angles because criticism is rarely 100% unfounded. There's usually something to be learned from what our detractors have to say about us.

Actually, I have a request that I think everyone would agree with...

Will there be a posting a few sample pages in PDF format so we can see what the PDF version looks like?

I'm actually pretty excited see the interim product.

I was wondering if a price has been posted yet for the pre-liminary versions or for the final product? I am not a millionaire and am limited on my gaming funds so I probably won't be able to afford the final book (I couldn't even get the Traveller book, I just try to make due with the T20 Lite and the MSRD files). Perhaps the un-glorified 3 part version will be in my price range.

The price will likely be around $25.00

I'll have a preview of the Intro chapter posted later tonight.

Frankly MJ, you or anyone else that has an issue with my absence due to circumstances beyond my control it not something I really worry about.

I think you're missing a very major point here, Hunter: whether you worry about it or not or give a damn what we say makes no difference - everything that Martin said here (which I said in the other thread too and you immediately dismissed) is still absolutely true.

We - your customers - need to see new products, we need to see things moving again, we need to see you sorting out all the outstanding problems with QLI, and we need to see proof that you're going to be staying at the helm if we're going to regain any confidence in you. You're not really "back" until you've actually demonstrated that you are back for good - if "circumstances beyond your control" are just going to get in the way again, then your return is premature.

You clearly resent people pointing these things out to you because all you've done is lash out and flip us off with snarky retorts. It just looks like you're covering your ears and saying "LALALALA" rather than facing the fact that you've got a very big hill to climb to regain people's confidence.

I dare say all I'm going to get for saying this is more chest-beating and playground retorts, but whatever.

The only one beating his chest around here is you Mal. That and the dead horse you are beating.
