The Future of 2320AD

At this point in time, there doesn't seem to be a future for 2320AD. I am very sorry that this project seems to have ended this way.
Though the situation is out of my control, I wish to extend my apologies to first, the fans who have been waiting for this book. I do not know when, if ever, it will be released, in any form. Second, my thanks, and also apologies, to everyone who was involved with this project, in particular Laurent Esmiol, Jonathon Pearson, and Ted Lindsey, who were never reimbursed for their fantastic work. And to all of the others who helped polish the manuscript, worked through rules changes, and in general made writing this a great deal of fun.
I have a list, and if it ever looks like 2320AD will see the light of day, in any form, then I will be in touch.
Lastly, to Hunter Gordon, I wish you all the best, and I hope that you can resolve your troubles and if possible, return. If not, I wish you well. In any case, thank you for the opportunity to revisit one of my favorite games. If you are ever in a position to publish 2320AD, I'll be there, ready to support it.

I still think it was a good idea.
The time WILL come (eventually) when there will be many people looking for this both familiar and fun product.
Thanks Colin, for your years of dedicated efforts.
They have not been wasted.
Chuck W.

Is this just do to the lack of communication with Hunter or have other issues arisen?

I am very sorry to see this as the 2300AD setting is one of my favorite Sci-Fi settings.

Good Luck,

Pete

Coiln,

Are ther not elements of 2320 that could not be published? The ships maybe? Could not a simialr product, say 2325AD, be released with another company (rather than let the 2300 stting die?)

I haven't heard from Hunter in nearly a year, nor have I been able to elicit any sort of response from Marc Miller regarding picking up the license (edit: This is no longer the case. Stay tuned.) Basically, without communication from Hunter, 2320AD is dead. If he should show up again, that would be cool, but to be honest, I ain't holding my breath.
I can do nothing with the material I have written, nor the maps I created. Those are all bought and paid for (Mostly. There is a provision in my contract for additional payments based on sales). So, unless I hear from Marc Miller or Hunter Gordon, unless they do something about it, 2320AD is dead. There is nothing more I can do. I can't even release 2320AD Lite, as it is based on material that I don't own, and thus I would need permission to have it released.

<Sigh>

I lay a black orchid at the site of another QLI product's grave site...

My sincere condolences, Colin (from a playtester). You're not alone in the loss of material submitted and frozen in this limbo-coma state sir.

..and walk away with TNE's Guilded Lilly 2 & 3's manuscripts, murmuring the Kadesh..

Greetings and salutations,

How much to purchase the license?

2300AD is one of my favorite sci-fi games and settings. The players I had for the game loved it too! It would be ashame if the game did not get produced. So I am serious about what it would cost to get the license.

I don't know. I have not had any response from Marc Miller to my inquiries on the subject. (edit: This is no longer the case. Stay tuned.) Even if I did get a license from Marc, I still couldn't use the 2320AD material I wrote for Hunter. He owns it all now. I would need to get agreement from him as well. And given that he isn't answering his email, that doesn't seem likely.

Mark, if you like you can PM me with your concerns. There's likely not much I can do about it, but if I can, I will.

This is really unfortunate news. My comiserations to all of the chaps who put time and effort into this (which includes me as a humble playtester and MHD turbine perfectionist) and all those who were looking forward to it. Have an Americo Foot-Long Boiled Egg (tm) on me.

That's two major gaming disspointments in the last year for entierly different reasons - one game I loved appearing in a new edition that sucked (Cyberpunk V3) and one game I loved not appearing in a new edition (2320AD), which sucks.

Yeah, Michael Pondsmith needs a good talking to. I bought CPv3 and cried after the first chapter and I'm not one to be moved to tears. Another product that has not been produced although it was mention in another is Military Weapons of the Imperium (or as close as I can recall the title).

At the moment, things are really hurting now that I put thought to it.

Did Hunter actually pay for the manuscript Colin? If not, you own it.
Yeah, he did, and for all the planet maps as well. This is why I held out hope for a long time that it would see the light of day, simply so he could make his money back. But it's been nearly a year since I was paid, and I haven't heard from him since.

This is sad news. I hope you have something else lined up Colin.
Yeah, working name is "The Borderzone" Think early Larry Niven meets Alastair Reynolds. Still in the very early development stages. No rules system as of yet, just background material.

Colin:

There's nothing to really PM about. I don't blame you for this mess at all.

to say I'm pi**ed off is an understatement. I, like others, have been waiting YEARS for more 2300. :-(
If you are due royalties then surely he's failing his end of the bargain? That sounds bad but I don't mean it to be... He's had some terrible problems but maybe it'd give you a talking point with him? I was quite prepared to go out and buy EVERYTHING that wouldve been produced for this game... even though I have everything there is to have (to my knowledge) for 2300AD. Sorry...just a bit fed up about this.

What a damn nuisance.

This is indeed sad, after all of Colin's (and everybody else's) hard work.

Colin and I passed a few PMs back and forth, and I would hope that something can be salvaged from this train wreck.

I, for one, would like to see the crunchy bits for the aliens (Sung, Xiang, Eber, Kafer, Klaxun, Pentapod, burrowvarg...), if nothing else.

Could any of the Powers That Be™ (if they are lurking about) throw us that much of a bone?
