The Solar System

I've added another planet to the Solar System. Also note, a starship must travel almost to the orbit of Jupiter in order to make a jump, because at this distance the Sun's gravity equals that of Earth's at 100 diameters. This forces Starships to do a bit of interplantary traveling before they get where they want to be.

One possibility is to make it into Classic Traveller Past, sometime after the development of the Jump-1 Drive, but before contact with the Vilani. The Jump-1 Drive is incapable of reaching Alpha Centauri by itself, but since a slower than light probe was already on its way when the Jump-1 drive was developed, the Mission Control decided to slow it down early before it was more than 1 parsec from the Earth and less than 1 parsec from Alpha Centauri. Using some powerful onboard radars, the Daedalus Probe was able to locate some rogue cometoids between the stars that could be used for refueling purposes. A Modular space station was then jumped into the vicinity piece by piece and assembled in interstellar space and mining and fuel processing operations began. Now jump-1 ships can jump to the Space Station Pegasus, dock refuel and jump onward to Alpha Centauri. The direction star ships can explore is somewhat limited as the only connection so far established was between Sol and Alpha Centauri. The Solar System is basically where the PCs come from. You can make up additional space colonies If you like, I just added the minimum to get this campaign off the ground I assume of course that the Jump Drive is invented in the 22nd century, not the 21st as the Traveller timeline indicates. All future events occur 100 years later than the Traveller timeline indicates because of this. The Solar System was substantially developed for about 100 years before people became aware of the possibility of the Jump Drive. Everything Tech Level 9 or under is available to the PCs for a price. Artificial Gravity is not yet available although it's know to be possible, research still continues in that area. PCs could be explorers, they could be traders, they could work for the Military, although Military ships are not yet jump capable, the First jump ships are the Free Trader, Subsidized Merchant and the Yacht. Such ships can be armed and often are, but if the PCs get in trouble out there, the US Space Force is not going to come to their rescue.
