Thoughts on hulls and their construction

I think Ian Douglas in his novels is presenting many future spaceships being built with nanotech, and some ships have active nano's that can reconfigure and repair damage.

I guess its listed in HG but I always thought H. Beam Piper's Collapsium sounded cool.

I think in Larry Nivan's novels he has a race (the Puppeteers) building starship hulls out of a single molecule.

Which I guess comes down to how much is your Traveller Space Opera or Hard Science.

Well, IIRC the Red Dwarf was rebuilt by nanobots (crew included), after Dave and company lost it. Does it serve as an example?
