TravCon 11 - Anyone going?

Now, to reiterate the UNANSWERED question I posed in the other thread about this...

I may well go this year, but I would like some info on the hotel so I can get a room. (The hotel info page refers to the vendor info page...)

:oo: ... Oh. Sorry, my misreading. (Though my question should still be answered, I'll kindly have it answered by those who actually ought to know.)

Out of interest, what are the rules on running a game? I understand that it has to be Traveller rules and preferably the new Mongoose set, that goes without saying, but what about setting? Does it have to be a canon Traveller setting such as the Third Imperium, Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog or Babylon 5 or could I throw anything in?
I guess what I'm getting at is that I'd love to run a Space:1999 game using either Mongoose Traveller or classic (with some house rules for combat). How would folks feel about that, do you think?

Wayne

To be honest, when deciding on which set of rules to use, there's no particular preference for the Mongoose rules having to be the one's played. I suspect that a lot of refs use them simply because they're the most current.

If you wanted to use Classic Traveller, GURPS, D20 or any other set of recognised Traveller rules, then that's OK as far as I'm aware.

As for the background, again I don't think that there's any particular requirement on setting it in the Third Imperium, using your own Traveller Universe would be OK.

Using the Strontium Dog or Judge Dredd backgrounds for example, may be going a little too far off piste. If I were you, I'd contact Andy Lilly first to get clarification on this point.

Fair enough. I was wondering wether it had to be Third Imperium, more than anything else. I also feel that Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog are a bit left at the traffic lights but I believe they use the Mongoose Traveller system - which is why I listed them as examples. I think Babylon 5 is much closer to the mark (as is Space 1999).

Anyways, as you say, if I decide to run a game, I'll be sure to okay my ideas with Andy first.

No; on-line I'm almost universally "FreeTrav". I also don't make it to overseas cons; while Montreal or Toronto might be possible (call it a day or so on the train, or driving), until our federal geTSApo is gone and the idea of intrusive screening and punitive pat-downs for standing on one's rights has been thoroughly killed, I am not going to be flying anywhere - which limits my travel somewhat.
