Traveller Book versus LBB 1-3

For all of its faults (and I am not going to try and excuse them), TTB is still my favorite presentation of Traveller. I agree that it could have (and probably should have) been more, but I still love it.

As I have mentioned elsewhere, I consider TTB+TTA to be Quintessential Traveller. (Actually, in a large way, even its faults are part of that. Traveller has always been an "imperfect" game.)

TTB + TTA do make a formidable pair.

Personal combat, psionics, chargen were all solid improvements. Other bits were much the same, or incrementally better. The parts that were thought through were very good. But...

Two major problems with T4. Okay, three. Four. Five...

5. Basic starship design wasn't.

4. The task system had two gaping holes in it - the half die and the Skill-Munchkin Effect (SME).

3. Production Quality, Production Quality, Production Quality.

T4 was a missed opportunity, but it never had a chance.

Would add two more crushing T4 errors

6. Another new milieu and no support for existing milieus (i.e. no equipment at TL 13-15 until FFS2 and Emperor's Arsenal belatedly came out).

7. Chargen skill inflation making the new system fundamentally incompatible with previous materials.

My major worry is that both issues will bedevil T5 as well...

Skill inflation? Nah, the Skill-Munchkin-Effect took care of that. Noone wanted to get more than one level in any skill...

Support was a problem, o yes.

The French corebook will be a kind of improved TTB.

For Starship Combat, we've replaced the vector-based system by the range-band system from Starter Traveller.

We've removed the short adventures.

We've added :
- most of Library Data (everything except the Solomani Rim article)
- Supplement 3 - Spinward Marches
- Aliens for Traveller
- Citizens of the Imperium (except the sample characters), revised according to the Spinward Marches Campaign
- Bits from Adventure 0- The Imperial Fringe
- A short chapter with bits from Books 4-7

We're adding every thing from Starter Traveller rulebook and LBB1-3 which is absent from TTB (drugs, primitive weapons, etc.).
