Traveller5 unboxing video

Yeah, that was way back. Believe it or not, that debate grew out of a problem I had with T4 in my campaign. I switched from MT to T4 when the latter came out, and we had a fairly long campaign using the T4 rules.

I posted my issue on the TML. It blew up into a large discussion (I bet you can find that old discussion in the TML archives--that was back in the early 90's). Marc was on the TML then. Someone, another TML member--not Marc (I've forgotten who), came up with the It's Harder Than I Thought rule. Marc thought it was a good idea and used it as part of the T4.1 task system. He changed a few other things and printed it on the T4 GM's screen.

The rule is now called the This Is Hard rule, as part of the T5 task system.

As Aramis says above, the cautious option actually started with CT when the UTP task system was introduced (DGP's task system for Classic Trav) and naturally became part of MT (because DPG was driving the bus on that edition of the game), then found its way into this current task system.

T4 didn't come out until I was married - and I got married in 1996 - so it was mid to late 90's there... My signed T4 was a wedding present from my wife! (Our aniversary is near the end of the month.

They'll be sporting long white beards once they've read it! :file_21:

The thought of reading 656 pages cover to cover and internalizing everything is a truly daunting one, especially from the perspective of someone like myself who has gotten used to holding a 48 page digest sized book (or 3)

The prospect of doing so is also an exciting one, especially as the anticipation and expectation is building amongst those of us who are yet to cast our eyes on the book.

My kids and I have already dubbed it "The Great Book" after seeing the unboxing video.

You're right, now that I think about it. I think I started that game in 1993, and it ended late 1998 or 1999.

Stil...that's 15 years ago, or there abouts!

Peter, thank you so much for that video! I enjoyed watching all that bling being unpacked.

Thanks for the share as it is good to compare with others on what they got.

Mine arrived in Scotland a couple of days back in a rather weighty box.

I'm still waiting for mine. Haven't even recived the notification that it has shipped. I contributed at the $150.00 level.

Quick evaluation. The ‘jump drive’ was blank ...

CORRECTION: The 'jump drive' was NOT blank. In my eagerness I don't notice that when plugged in, the 'jump drive' appears as TWO devices. One is identified as a CD-ROM (even though it's not) that has all the files. The other identifies itself as a USB storage device and that is the part that is blank.

sounds a little bit like when plugging in an mp3 player. 2 partitions: one for the files and one for the spare space.
By the way Hemdian your unboxing video is getting quite a lot of views and stirring up some excitement :)

Well, I guess the power of the video is such that I've gone ahead and finally parted with my money to pick up a copy of T5. I was also slightly interested in the Classic Traveller little box, but I'll think about that later.

It is a mighty big book, which I'm not usually a fan of in rpgs, and there may be a few doubts about the mechanics, etc. However, the interior layout looks elegant and it only takes a bit to get me excited by a Traveller product like this. But that 'bit' was the assurance provided by the 5 seconds or so of leafing through the book on the video.

Mongoose Traveller is still my current Traveller of choice, because of it's generic/adaptable qualities, but I am now looking forward to getting my teeth into Marc Miller's 'ultimate' vision! :)

Having a family name starting with "S" feels so long...

Segelski... WTF... I want to be adopted by the Adams family!

I can't help to have a dream almost every week playing with my now deceased father... !

I hope once I have the real thing in my hand those dreams will become crystal memories!

Thanks for the great video...

Éli,

Just got mine yesterday

The package with the big massive book arrived yesterday. I've been digging through it and the CD contents.

I noticed the missing 1001 examples files. Any word on if those actually exist or is someone in the process of producing them?

I just wanted add a Gauss pistol as the 'personal weapon' for the Spacer character I generated.

Marc will be making the 1001 example files available for download after the KS shipments are complete, I believe... I'll confirm during the errata call.
