Travellercon 2016 -- current discussion?

Does this year's Travellercon have a discussion group anywhere? I am curious about going this year; I haven't before, and don't quite know what to expect if I do. Are there panels, or is the focus entirely on running/playing? Do sessions have to be preselected before the con itself? (And is there much place for someone interested in Traveller as a ruleset, but who doesn't particularly care one way or another about the Imperium universe/OTU per se?)

Thanks.

The past several years have been primarily gaming sessions run by different GMs. At least one of them has used the Traveller ruleset to run his own campaign setting "Nova Roma", and John Watts of Gypsy Knight Games is usually there running scenarios in his Clement Sector setting. So there is plenty of room for non-OTU people. And various Traveller rulesets are usually played (CT, MT, MgT, T5, GT, etc).

Usually there are several merchants there with Traveller material as well.

Last year (my first time) there were close to 50 people attending. There was one gaming session Friday night, 3 on Saturday, and 1 on Sunday. During each time slot there about 5 different games being run. THe most common ruules used were CT and Mongoose, but there was also MegaTraveller and T5. There was also a handful of vendors (3-4 if I recall) selling Traveller related stuff.

It was a total blast and this year I am bringing my entire gaming group (all 4 of us) to the con as well as running an adventure myself that will use Mongoose 2nd edition rules.

Cheapskate traveller (ha ha) food/supplies?

Hmm. Without driving, is there anywhere within near walking distance of the Host to pick up (cheapo) food/snacks/supplies? Thanks.

Having been there for conventions in the 1990s, mainly Historicon, at that time, there were not. Things might have changed since then. I do remember back then that the hotel served a very good Scrapple for breakfast.

You might do a Google Maps check on that, or talk someone into giving you a ride to town for munchies/snacks.

Not walking distance (other than the Host restaurant inside). But there are fast food places within a 2-3 minute drive.

I stayed there many times in the 90s while working at Limerick and Peachbottom. The property was rather "tired" then, but this indicates some long term skimping on basic maintenance. You can only hide your problems behind new paint, new bedspreads, and new paintings for so long.

ObTrav: Start imposing the Three Generation rule on orbital stations, planetoid habitats, and the like.

I think Meghan was saying that they didn't expect any issue with the venue by the time October rolled around. I will check emails later to verify.

She responded to me with the same information, so I think the Lancaster Host is still on for the site.

Well that is good news...I spent some time there during Cold Wars and Fall In with HMGS.

My father religiously escapes there annually for the conventions.

Just an FYI:

There was a water main break at the Lancaster Host about one month ago. It was subsequently condemned (at least until the extent of the damage can be assessed and/or rectified).

I don't know whether or not TravellerCon 2016 will need to find a new venue.

The LancasterOnline report was in error; the facility was never condemned. It is under new ownership, and extensive renovations - not just because of the water main break - are under way; TravellerCON will be going forward this October as planned.

I've posted a brief "Come and Play" over in the News Feed area.

Come and Play!

Yeah, the report of the leak was a bit sensationalized. My group just reserved our rooms and we are all set to invade Lancaster in October. Looking forward to it and seeing everyone again!

I used to be in the DBM stuff and then went to the Armati crew. Haven't been there for a long time. Moving further away now.

Pennsylvania... long way to drive and I really don't want to be groped by the TSA perverts to fly in discomfort... At least I'll consider it.
