Truckers

Character gen by cards, uses d10's, cards and poker chips.

Only things vaguely travelleresque are the cover and the idea of a merchantile game.

From "Truckers" I was wondering if it was a Pratchett-based game (Bromeliad Trilogy: Truckers, Diggers, Wings.) Alas, no. It was only "Trucker".

Mildly amusing presentation for enough time to say "Heh, funny but no sale." :D

Reminds me of a SF book I stumbled on some time ago.

Somewhere there is a network of groundside stargates. Big rig trucks are outfitted with life support and do the classic merchant hauling activity. A major plot line was the search for the fabled 'roadmap' that would show all the routes and maybe where they actually were in the universe.

"...other races used starships..."

IIRC the transit was near instantaneous. If the transit time was adjusted to the standard 150-175 hours, it would make a heck of an adventure to spring on some jaded players.

Hmmm, where's my TRAVELLER books...?

That sounds familiar - weren't there a couple of books to that? The name Starrigger rings a bell w/ me...

That's the one! I was racking my brain trying to recall it. I might have read it but really can't remember it, I may even still have it around here somewhere. It was the cover pic that influenced the purchase, that and the plot outline is about all I do remember.

Reminds me of a SF book I stumbled on some time ago.

The Skyway series was by John DeChancie; three books:

1. Starrigger
2. Red Limit Freeway
3. Paradox Alley

I recently acquired all three, but haven't had the chance to read them. They are reputed to be good reads.
