Type A1 Free Trader?

I'm guessing that The Type-A is the "Type-A1". "Type-A2" just being there to differentiate from the Type-A.

Never mind, I found it. It's mentioned at the tail end of the Far Trader entry as a variant of the A2--which seems backward. It's a Jump-1 variant of the A2.

Now I understand some of the stuff I read in the Far Trader Errata sticky thread.

Yep, it's a confusing little bit of canon :)

Basically, the way I see it anyway, there are three ships to think about:

The Type A Free Trader - The Beowulf class, with one hull type. The wedgy sorta one with the big fuel scoops sticking out the sides.

The Type A2 Far Trader - (class name escapes me atm), with a different type of hull. The one with the glass atrium dual noses.

The Type A1 Free Trader - (no idea if it is a class in its own right, see TCS rules for that), with the same hull as the Type A2 Far Trader above, but with lesser drives so less fuel, allowing more cargo.

Type A2 Empress Marava

Although due to the small numbers of Empresses some would likely bear the names of Princesses and Duchesses.

Perhaps the Type A1 would bear the names of Baronesses or Countesses?

Empress! Thanks BlackBat :)

I like the idea for the A1 being Baroness class. My note to see TCS hints at the rules governing what and how far a ship class can be changed and still be considered the same class. Not that it has to follow those rules. And I never had a worry with there being too few Emperesses since I just presumed it wasn't limited to Imperial Nobility.

The various Beowulf deckplans usually show fuel purification plants, which weren't in LBB2. Is there a High Guard version of the Type A statted up anywhere? Are LBB2 and High Guard compatible enough that you could just add fuel purification plants, and take the tonnage out of cargo?

MarionLH, yes (several) and imo yes (sort of).

Sorry, I'm away from home with limited access to supply links, there should be some around CotI somewhere, possibly my own included.

I say sort of because the way I built my B2-B5 conversions attempted (mostly succeeded) to keep the overall ship the same. So I usually take the purifiers out of fuel tonnage (which is reduced in B5) and keep the cargo and the rest the same. I find very often the B2 drives and fuel can be made to work as B5 drives, purifiers, and fuel. That means most if not all B5 ships do indeed have purifiers, even if the B2 versions didn't.
