If you are going to make it separable, you are going to need a bridge, maneuver fuel, drive, and weapons in each section. How crew quarters and such are divided will be the tricky part. Doing that may reduce performance (jump and or maneuver drives) and/or increase the size of the ship (if performance is not sacrificed).

Star Trek (and thus SFB) saucer ships did that by using an "Emergency Bridge" or an "Auxilliary Control" in the rear sections of all such separable starships.

And, Marquis, I think you would need to use the HG rules for docking ships - needing some hull room for the mechanisms, extra bracing, etc.
