USAF F-15E verse War of the Worlds Tripod

But they don't sit on Alert-15 like the F-15Es do. But when the fighter jocks get smoked you mud movers get to go in and save a grateful planet. ;)

Do F-15Es sit at Alert-15?

The F-15E is the Strike Eagle variant optimized for the strike mission, which okay is why it was probably dispatched to deal with a ground target like a Tripod but is there an USAF airbase somewhere in upstate New York ready to scramble at a moments notice to..... what? Strike at angry Canadians storming across the border to refight the War of 1812?

Okay.

There's a lot wrong with the ideas behind the video. Don't call in an airstike on downtown Manhattan, way to many tall buildings to interfere with your approach and weapons release. If you really have to, don't send a Strike Eagle, use an A-10 or Apache or any other weapon in the vast US arsenal.

Why not let the Army handle it? Well obviously there must be something in the various rules and regulations assigning responsibilities to the different branches that says the USAF gets first crack at alien invaders (presumably because the come from the sky, or well from beyond the sky):coffeesip:

However on the basis of this video I think America may be woefully unprepared for alien invasion. Come to think of it according to every alien invasion movie I've ever seen, the US is woefully unprepared for an alien invasion.

Where are all government information videos showing how the invader will be repelled? They'd be good for propaganda, and when the aliens see them they'd think twice about coming to Earth :D

If you check the Dragon thread in the bestiary section you'll note that we're also unprepared for a dragon invasion. I am very dissatisfied with how my tax dollars are being spent for defense of this nation  A big scaly leathen-winged creature could show up at my house anytime, and there's no one I could call to deal with it.

Where's my can of "Dragon-be-gone" ... probably in the garage next to my "Rid-o-Martian".

15E's can carry AAMs, and have been used for ready alert, at EAFB, according to the pilots at the Elmendorf O-Club...

It basically boils down to the same reasons why FA-18's are used for air intercept by the Navy, and why F-4 phantoms were used as dogfighting aircraft during 'Nam, and F-14's have been used for air support - they can do the basic tasks, and they're present, while better fits for the task were not present (or not in sufficient numbers).

The American government is hoping that any aliens thinking of invasion will have read Footfall by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. :coffeesip:

Oh man, they blew up the MetLife building! My company has 3 floors of offices in there!

But seriously, I would like to see them do this with the Reapers from Mass Effect. What do you think it would take to bring one of them down?
