So what does this nomenclature actually mean?

If I guess correctly...
(F7 V* BD) [M3 V]
An F7 V - which is a yellow-white, main sequence star, with a close brown dwarf, and a far M3 V, which is a main sequence red star.

As I pointed out on the other thread, there are no obstacles (from me) to prevent T5SS from using the bracketed Stellar Data format that I came up with and that was used in Bearers of the Flame.

Right, but there is some support from people not posting in that thread for using more specific details like orbit numbers, etc.
