Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
Wow, that guy is doing some great 3D work. Always nice to see new interpretations of Traveller "classics". I can't wait to see his finished ship interiors.
BTW, if anyone's interested, there's a few new images of the updated Scout and System Defense Boat on my site:
That's a pretty nice redesign of the SC, and the stuff at his site is well done... but I take exception to his belittling attitude toward the original designs.
Duh... it's supposed to be uninspirational. It's the equivalent of a coastguard patrol boat.
Glad you guys like it - even if we disagree about the Suleiman =)
It's called a Florian class and the intent is that it's a sort of custom job. A refit, if you will of the classic wedge. I thought it'd be nice if a small family company built these ships based on the standard Scout/Courier frame. A bit like the Ford Sierra Cosworth. To design it I took the absolute basic stats from the LBB and threw in a couple of pulse lasers on the allready fitted double turret for self defence.
I'll be regularly updating that thread with the modelling as it progresses and I intend to disect the whole thing on a website when it's done. This
will include stills, animations, cutaways, tech guff and downloadable floorplans in 15mm and 25mm scale.
Just a wee note-ette to let you know that the Scout has been updated with an AVI run of the cockpit. It's not completed yet - but gives more of a feel of the shape of things.
The Scout looks really nice. I'm just wondering if, somewhere in the back of your mind, you were thinking of the SR-71 when you were designing it? It's not a bad thing, I was just wondering
Here is a picture of the SR-71 in almost the same view.
Actually, not even slightly - however, it was in turn - let me explain....
I originally took the classic Type-S Wedge. I decided I'd like to have the engines exposed rather than sat in a great hall in the back of the ship. With this in mind I started curving it's lines to make it more genuinely streamlined.
The resultant desing smacks rather a lot of Amidala's Nubian design from the Phantom Menace. Once I realised that I kind of just went with it.
The Nubian itself is based on the SR-71 so I guess in a way it is based on the SR-71 but not intentionally so.
