Vegans, O Vegans. Wherefore art thou, Vegans?

I'm not sure if I should add the stuff about Vegans from Traveller Chronicle into my document. Some of it is useful but *none of it is canon*, so I dunno - what do people think? Is it worth the effort to add this stuff to my Vegans document?

More Vegan

I could of swore we had something that Far-trader alluded to in his post about Vegans and it did include character gen (since we played Traveller together in the 'old' days). I seem to remember they were similar to humans except for the fact they had some different starting skills and I believe some STR/CON/DEX modifiers based on their homeworld attributes. Call me crazy, but I am quite sure it exists.

This is perhaps a stupid question, but: what, if anything, is preventing it from being, or becoming, "canonized?" It's not like we're talking about some screwball IP situation with all the DGP stuff. Presumably the guys at SotN are a bit more on the ball than ol' Mr. DeeGeePee McPatentroll about the value (or lack thereof) of the material they have under copyright. Is it just a matter of Marc taking a look at it and stamping a big red "C" on the cover?

I'm just wondering, since the image I found of Traveller Chronicle 11 shows that the back cover consists of a full-page ad for T4. That's not an explicit endorsement of TC material, I know; but it does seem to imply that they were at least aware of each other's material.

Plus, anything that would help me with my project of "filling out" the early history of the Traveller Universe is of great interest to me. Since I'm currently examining the era immediately prior to the start of the Consolidation Wars, this obviously includes anything on the Vegans.

What light through yonder memory break?

Thank you guys for your heroic efforts to assist me! The lack of a concise article with chargen suggests that my "memory" of such is a chimera constructed by my subconscious in some way. This is further suggested by the fact that the illsutrions I "recall" accompanying the article I stumbled across today in... (prepare to grit your collective teeth) .. the GURPS: Traveller corebook. And even that, too, is a mere travelgue outline with no chargen - but since it'd be GURPS, it would do me no good anyway (which I have alreadyin GT:ISW). Boy, was I dissappointed...

So it appears I will do what any good GM must often do - wing it.

Thanks again a million times, guys, for wracking your collective brains on my behalf. I think this wild goose chase I started can now be concluded.

Pax. Over and out.

If it would help (and be of help generally to the community) I can make best efforts to actually finish "Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Vegans But Are Too Scared To Ask" and post it as a PDF for all to download.

(I've decided I won't include the non-canon stuff btw)

I suggest that you add it, but mark it as Non-Canon or Questionable Canon and let the read/user decide for themselves. At least the material will be there if desired.

OK, I think I've put it altogether properly. I haven't included the material from Traveller Chronicle.

You can download a copy of the file from here.
Quite excellent! I certainly learned a thing or two.

I noticed that you included Rim of Fire as a source but not Interstellar Wars. Is there a reason for that? There are a few unique tidbits of information on the Vegans from GT:IW that could be of interest to someone researching their history.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure the Vegans document would fall foul of FUP, even despite any disclaimers etc. So yeah, sorry guys, it had to go. Apologies to all for the disappointment.

Aside from a little more detail on Vilani conduct towards the Vegans during the Consolidation Wars, Interstellar Wars also drops in a mention that it was the Geonee who gave the Vegans jump drive technology, not the ubiquitous "Vilani traders" of yore.

Now, that makes a tremendous amount of sense, compared to the previous chauvinistic nonsense about leaking Vilani patents. There are social and technological implications to a Geonee-Vegan connection, as well -- at least in terms of how and/or why the Vegan campaign was fought.

Darn. I missed it. Pity since I was the one asking for this info to begin with.
Oh well.

Now I'll have to make up a chargen for Vegans.

My campaign(s) is(are) set in an extended Interstellar Wars period (the entire "2nd Imperium/Rule of Man" period is a "cold war" between the Vilani Imperium & the Terran Confederation).

Since the TC and the Vegans apparently get along great, there should be a number of Vegan Travellers running around.
