Very cool cover

Thanks, Colin! Traveller:2300 was a lot of fun to design and illustrate for-a hard science fiction environment is a real rarity, even now, and it certainly was back in '86! Ron Cobb (who did designs for Alien, Aliens, The Abyss, etc) likes to call himself a frustrated engineer, and I like to think of myself in that catagory, too. I love to try to work the problem of what a given technology would look like.

Laurent Esmiol's work is VERY cool!-And it's always a blast to see another artist's interpretaion of some of my designs. He really has understood the design philosophy I put in to those ships and expanded upon it-his designs really live in the same universe as Rob Caswell's, Bryan Gibson's and my ships. Looks like you're going to have an extremely good looking book! Can't wait!

i've got that book, too. ;)

Thanks, Tom! You, Rob Caswell and Bryan Gibson were all very big influences on me. The work you did for Traveller and 2300 over the years is still among my all time favorite game art. I definitely see the similarities to Ron Cobb in your work since you obviously spent a lot of time thinking about the functional design of what you illustrated. I'm an engineer as well (among other things) but I'm not particularly frustrated, I just like to draw. ;)

I hope you like the changes I introduced to the SSV-21 Survey Ship you designed for 2300. Colin and I chose it for the cover but I wanted to update the look a bit. There's a larger image of it on my website under the Art section.

Hi, Ted! Thanks! There was a great cross-pollination of ideas and design philosophies in that triumverent. I remeber sitting at a coffee shop, late (or early) one night at GenCon with Rob and Bryan, covering napkins with great design work, just riffin' on ideas.
Yep, your update is just perfect! You took the design in just the right direction IMHO. Can't wait to see the rest of your stuff for 2320. I really like the characters on the cover, too, particularly the vacc suit. I think somebody else on this thread all ready said this, but its true; that cover intrigues me, and really makes me want to pick it up and start playing. It does exactly what a game cover is supposed to do!

BTW, thanks for the tutorial on Rhino a while back. I'm still climbing the learning curve, but it is a great modeler.
