Volentine Gambit

shield

SOC-14 1K
Just acquired the Volentine Gambit from Cargonaut Press. It is an old text based traveller adventure for the Apple.

Before I go looking for an Apple emulator, a couple of questions:

1. Is it any good / worth the effort?

2. Does anyone have a walkthrough, so I can run the adventure without bothering to load the game?

Cheers
Richard

Apologies for the thread necromancy in breathing life into this thread after seven years, but it saves starting a new one.

Has anyone here ever played this game?

If so, would they be kind enough to PM me with a quick summary of how the adventure unfolds?

I have read the background to the adventure in the accompanying book (which BTW is worth reading just for its very detailed background on Mertactor alone) and so I know how it starts and there are a few clues there as to what the player will learn along the way, but there's not enough clues there to figure out how the whole thing will go.

From what I learned from the background, this adventure should fit in very well with my campaign and so I'd like to run my players through a version of it. Sadly though, I haven't had a lot of luck in getting emulators to work on Win 7 and, even if I did, I don't have 50 hours spare to run through it myself (I was never any good with those text based adventures back in the day in any case).

Any information anyone could give me on the adventure arc inside it - no matter how basic - would be gratefully received.

I tried playing it once and never managed to get out of the first situation. No matter what I tried, someone shot me.

I have mined it for background information.

Yes, I am pretty sure that the same would happen to me, which is the last thing I need when I just need a paragraph on what actually happens.

If I knew more about coding I could probably extract the text from the adventure which would mean that we could all just read through it without having to go through every wrong option to get to the next scene.
