WANTED: Info on Guilded Lily and Flaming Eye

I have a chance to bid on Flaming Eye and Guilded Lily on Ebay (yes, let the stampeded begin).... but I know very little about either. I think Flaming Eye might be about Vargr Corsairs and I suspect Guilded Lily might be a TNE product. Can someone shed some light on what these products are and how worthwhile/well produced they are?

Thanks!

Guilded Lily is a TNE product and the first in the unfinished "Virus Redux" series of adventures. I believe that someone is currently writing a "new" version of the Virus Redux series as an epic adventure.

The adventure centers around this one town world where the characters find that a trader is offering newly built 200 dTon Far Traders for ridiculous prices. Of course, things aren't quite what they seem...

An interesting read for me, and I'd heard good things about the adventurekm so I picked up a copy at GenCon this year for $5. There about 5 other copies scattered around the floor after I got mine. So, don't bid too high on it.

FWIW, I think the Guilded Lilly is the poorer of the two. The Flaming Eye, on the other hand, is a DGP product, and exemplifies their high production value.

Guilded Lilly = so-so art, it's shorter, more cliched, smaller scope and scale

Flaming Eye = great art, good deckplans, much longer, more variety, larger scope and scale

Thanks,
Dan

Biggest complaint I heard was that it was "too easy". That is, one reviewer suggested that "unless the players really screw up, a whole heap of goodwill is just gonna fall into their laps" (any misquoting is my fault).

However, one of the most fun parts was that it gave character profiles for EVERY NPC that lived on one planet! OK, OK, so this was a Lo-Pop world, but still it was fun - the sort-of "small town" effect that's been done a LOT for fantasy games but not for SF.

FWIW, it would be a good scenario to adapt to a freeform (er, "LARP" for those in the US).

It's very much the first part of a series, rather than a stand-alone adventure. On the other hand, a mission that doesn't go wildly pear-shaped might make for a nice change of pace.

The entire epic plotline would have rocked. You can definitely have fun with the Guilded Lily by itself, though.

And yes, it would rock as a freeform. Someone should try something like it at a major Con. Perhaps even with guest stars and/or cameo appearances.

Flaming Eye is the translation of the Vilani term for pirates. The book is a campaign supplement to DGP's Vilani & Vargr book. I got it before the V&V book and it's worth getting but not for *too* much. Good illos, NPC and planet writeups, and ship plans if nothing else. I don't think you have to have the V&V book either as the UWPs etc. are included.

Don't have the other but there have been threads about the development of the other two books in the series for QLI here on CotI. It's in development is all I can say without looking up the threads.

Check http://www.travellerbibliography.org/ for a little more info / cover pics of each. (MT | DGP and TNE | GDW)

What is the content of Flaming Eye? Is it Vargr Pirate stuff?

Thanks BTW for the info on these products. I figured the luminaries of COTI would have some thoughts.

Here's something I prepared earlier ;) :

It's a really good add on to the Vilani and Vargr supplement, which isn't needed to run the scenarios inside.

It's split up into two linked campaigns, each of which contains multiple scenarios in nugget format.

Once again the PCs are the crew of a Far Trader. In the first campaign they are hired by the Imperium to rescue an agent from inside the restored Vilani Empire.

In the second they are hired by the Vilani to locate some missing Vilani ships. This one takes them over the border (just) into the Vargr Extents.

While there are some random nuggets, both adventures are quite linear but enjoyable none the less.

There are 27 world data sheets (including Newcastle
) and many maps and diagrams that could be reused elsewhere.

The interior artwork is superb, if you are a fan of Blair Reynolds (which I am).

I really enjoyed running this campaign, it's a great shame the one to accompany Solomani and Aslan never made it.

Hope this helps.
Mike
