Wear Value Increases?

I've been looking over the TNE rules for wear, but although it has been stated on this forum that the minimium wear value increase for starships is 1 per decade, I can't find that anywhere in the rulebook. Does anyone know where that rule came from, and what would cause a ship to wear out faster?

That's as long as you can go between overhauls. Since each overhaul adds a non-reversible +1 permanently to minimum WV....

Ok, now I'm really confused. The TNE core rulebook says that starships require an annual mantaince overhaul, nothing about going 10 years between one. Missing one mantaince overhaul increases wear value by one, being reversed if the ship gets it mantaince within one year. A ship could go 10 years between overhauls, but then it would be wear value 10. If a ship has gotten its annual mantaince each year, but is a century old, what wear value would it be? Do properly-mantained ships get any wear value increase at all?

TNE gives the raw numbers to figure it out. The failure check (weekly for ships) is 1d10 vs Wear Value. Minimum WV increase is 1 per 10 years. a good crew can keep that WV 7 running (since it's a difficult, Relevant skill task to avoid an actual breakdown), but everyone is working overtime.

Realistically, figure about 80 years given the TNE forumlae and double crew to meet increased maintenance after 40 years.

A truly insanely dedicated crew with the correct funding could make it more than 100, but they are always on the ragged edge of a disaster.

I probably used the wrong term. ≤checks book≥ It's a rebuild that resets the WV back. TNE pg 242.

Truth is, a WV1 ship should have 1 potential breakdown per 10 jumps, or about 3 per year, and so should not get to WV 2 for 5 years to 10 years, assuming no extra maintenance, and competent crew (skill 2 stat 8, asset 10). It should hit WV 3 about 3-7 years later, and be really a pain on the pocket book. So a rebuild is in order to get it back to WV 2.

The 1 per decade is a rule of thumb. It works for most ships... because the average crewman is skill 2 stat 7 asset 9 (and is a point above average in stat.)
