Weber's Honorverse

I bought the entire series as well. I'm just starting #4 and hope that it doesn't go "downhill" as much as many of you are suggesting. That would be unfortunate.

I've been thinking of using CT to simulate HH, but I'm a bit of a novice to Traveller and don't have the rules down enough to make an intelligent attempt. Any suggestions or ideas would be welcome.

I'm going to suggest that you wander over to my Traveller website for some Harrington-eque ideas on how to it. I've toyed a bit with the concept and even put some of it on paper (so to speak).
This sounds good, lightsenshi, but I don't see a link to your Traveller website. Am I missing something obvious?

The ship’s comp system beeped quietly, updating the fleet news service homepage. The officers and crew of HMS Thunderboomer checked the homepage and learned that Duchess Countess Keyholder Dame Honor Harrington was taking their ship as her new flag.

Within 2.024 seconds 84.25% of the ship’s Chief Petty Officers crapped themselves, with a mean average volume of 267.4 grams.

Crewmembers all over the ship began attempting to injure themselves in horrible ways, from plasma burns to chopping off their own hands or feet, to avoid the upcoming deployment of death from which no enlisted would return yet again.

Honor boarded the ship, and with a single steely gaze stopped all the crew in their tracks and sent those not already injured back to their tasks. She then went straight to her new cabin and started checking the fleet roster for the most wrong persons to sleep with, and invited them for a special conference.

Its not that bad. Rather be serving on her ladyship's ship than most of the rest of the fleet these days.
Take a look at the loss rates for everyone else. At lease she gets some of her crew back.
Would you rather be serving on home fleet (wiped out) or the fleet that went in to rescue them (mostly wiped out) or honors ships.

I suspect that fleet service in either manty or peep will be russian roulette before too long, its just not possible to survive in major fleet actions anymore.

on a divergent tack

C.J.Cherryh's Merchanter and Union universe is pretty techie if you read some of the later stuff like Hellburner. SHould be easy to post over as a lower tech, if divergent ttl tree. FTL, no CG, sparse usable worlds, alotta space stations. Relativistic aging etc., heck there are still some slowboat crews members still floating around. In that Uni, ships can achieve a very high fractional -C velosity, using inertial sumps in the drive field, which also shields radiation and small debris effects. The slow boats ran at .95C and used ramjets to keep refueled. Hence the relativistic aging effects.

The Channur novels are in the same Universe and use very similar tech. Kinda like the joke from Andromeda "Slipstream is a terrrible way to fly, but it's the only way to fly".:nonono:

Okay getting down off the soapbox so someone else can have a turn.

I think the quote from Andromeda is :
"Slipstream, its not the best way to travel faster than light. Its the only way."
