What rates an MCUF, MCG, or SEH?

My father won a Military Medal for carrying out and leading to safety two half-sections of wounded men under a massive artillery barrage. A few years back a SAS soldier here in New Zealand got the Victoria Cross for carrying a wounded comrade 70m to safety under fire (in Afghanistan not NZ:-) ). Other people did same and got nothing. I guess it comes down to how the officer recommending the decoration or not writes it up. Can't see it being any different in the far future.

It also depends on who is there to see. Ripley at the bridge, for instance, did not get the Medal because of a lack of US witnesses. Met him. Humbling...

SEH
[Flag Officer] When faced with inevitable crushing defeat, felt really bad about abandoning command to their fate, while making pithy resolutions of return.

MCG
[Field Grade Officer] Flew over battlefield in grav tank and kept a stiff upper lip, while saying very encouraging things over the radio to the poor sods rotting in the trenches.

MCUF
[Company Grade Officer] Failed to embarass self at the distant sound of gunfire. Made bad jokes in lame attempt at propping up morale.

OK, that was funny. :)
