Take the quiz, then share your results.

I took it twice. I'm a Storyteller, and secondarily just a Casual Gamer.

Casual Gamer plays mainly for social purposes. The game itself is secondary.

Power Gamer is the munchkin.

Weekend Warrior wants to let off steam by kicking butt.

Specialists tend to prefer one general type of character, regardless of game or setting, due to the characterization or abilities of that type of character. For example, the Ranger.

Character Players want to understand, and then follow consistently, the motivations of their characters.

Tacticians thrive on overcoming obstacles and solving problems. An ideal outcome for a Tactician is (for example) where all conflict and risk is cleverly avoided.

Storytellers like to be part of an unfolding plotline with internally consistent and understandable NPCs.

You Scored as Storyteller
The Storyteller is in it for the plot: the sense of mystery and the fun of participating in a narrative that has the satisfying arc of a good book or movie. He enjoys interacting with well-defined NPCs, even preferring antagonists who have genuine motivations and personality to mere monsters. To the Storyteller, the greatest reward of the game is participating in a compelling story with interesting and unpredictable plot threads, in which his actions and those of his fellow characters determine the resolution. With apologies to Robin Laws.

Well....

It sat there "calculating results" for nearly 10 minutes at which point I assumed I broke the quiz in some manner....

What's that say? :oo:

Maybe I'm just :toast:

Tell me a story...

Somehow I am not terribly surprised by the result.

I Scored as Storyteller.

I should have my players fill this out, then I might have a handle on exactly what they all want to do. Thanks, Rob.

Laterness,
Craig.

What it didn't score is that I'm also a rules-raping munchkin, too!

You Scored as Character Player

The Character Player enjoys creating in-depth characters with distinct and rich personalities. He identifies closely with his characters, feeling detached from the game if he doesn't. He takes creative pride in exploring different characters, often making each new one radically different than others he's played. The Character Player bases his decisions on his character's psychology first and foremost. He may view rules as a necessary evil at best, preferring sessions in which the dice never come out of their bags. For the Character Player, the greatest reward comes from experiencing the game from the emotional perspective of an interesting character.

You Scored as Tactician

The Tactician enjoys opportunities to think his way through complex problems, usually those of the battlefield. He prefers realistic (or at least internally consistent and logical) rules and settings. He likes to be able to picture a scene in detail, so that he can make good decisions and reap their rewards. He particularly hates playing without a battle mat or miniatures. The Tactician becomes annoyed when other players make unsound decisions, or when they plow into encounters without thinking them through. For the Tactician, the greatest reward in gaming is a challenging yet logical obstacle for his character to overcome.

All true, but like every quiz I've ever taken on the Interwebz, it doesn't tell the whole story.

Thanks for the link, Robject -- that was fun!

After about 20 minutes, I finally got this thing called tie-breaker, and then it gave a totally incorrect assessment. I hate wasting time that way.

I came up as follows:

Storyteller 90%
Character Player 75%
Casual Gamer 60%
Specialist 55%
Tactician 50%
Weekend Warrior 35%
Power Gamer 30%

Based on the descriptions, before I took the test, I'd have considered myself to be a combination of Storyteller-CharacterPlayer-Specialist-Tactician in no particular proportion/order, so I can't say that this quiz was as inaccurate as the usual run-of-the-mill social-site quiz.

I answered based on my playing days in 2nd Edition D&D, along with Blue Book D&D and the original three books. As I was also designing my own dungeons and DM a lot, I tried to play as many different character types and races as I could to get a feel for what the players might throw at me. That did not include the recurring NPC that I worked up and role played. I did draw a line at swearing like a mule skinner though. Angus MacDuff had well trained mules.

The quiz rated me as a specialist, only playing one type of character.

Kriky, no wonder I like GM'ing games as well as being a player. Hows that possible! 100% storyteller.

Not surprisingly I'm a Storyteller.

It explains why I haven't done anything other than run games for decades and get easily bored as a player. But sometimes I yearn for the simpler days of just bashing orcs and enjoying the spoils...
