What would be a good Sci-Fi RPG Title

Could you share your reasoning for excluding these words.

Reasoning? None to speak of. More like jaded impressions.

It's just that it seems whenever I see any of those words in the title of a book, game, movie, or TV program, I'm inclined to think, "Here we go again" with no great enthusiasm. Unfortunately, I'm rarely ever wrong.

Each time, it's as if someone has played mix-and-match with the same 12 basic plotlines and the same 7 archetypical characters. Even special effects technology seems to have reached a plateau in development and expression.

To illustrate my point, I knew about 10 to 15 minutes into the movie "The Sixth Sense" that the character of Dr. Malcolm Crowe was already dead. I figured out that Spock would be ressurrected even before he died in "The Wrath of Khan," and that by the end of the first book, even Harry Potter would have to die.

Would someone please come up with something both original and relevant, even if it's only a title?

Spoiler?

...that by the end of the first book, even Harry Potter would have to die.

What?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

You just reminded me of a Simpsons episode with Homer walking out of the movie theater after just seeing The Empire Strikes Back and says in front of all the people waiting in line to see it:

"I can't believe Darth Vader is Luke's Father."

Heh :) I was walking out of Star Wars in '77 saying "Darth Vader is Luke's Father". And long before Yoda uttered his "there is another" I knew Leia was Luke's sister.

I feel for you KR, we share the same curse :smirk:

My friends kept remarking on the physical similarities I share with some movie creators and how they never see them and me together ;)

It was their joke explanation for my always knowing the "plot" of movies ahead of time. Same for some novels and most TV.

Still, I don't let it spoil my fun too much. I turn it into a game, how quick and how right can I get "it" and I'm not always right either. I totally missed* on the Sixth Sense for example and quite enjoyed being surprised for a change. And the season finale of NCIS a season or two back totally blew me away when they killed Kate. Did. Not. See. That. Coming. The writers/producers crafted the thing perfectly leading up to and slamming it home. Damn, I still get emotional over it! Typing about it now again. I didn't know whether to praise them for the excellent leap or flame them for killing the best character on the show. Seriously.

* I'd missed it at the theaters, hadn't talked to anyone who'd seen it, hadn't even seen many previews, and when it came on TV one night I had nothing else to do so I popped some corn and just watched it cold, didn't play my game, just let the movie entertain me.

Well aren't you guys gifted with insight. It must be horible never getting surprised at the movies. Why would you even bother going. Please tell me how Lost will end, or better yet BSG. Let's start a new thread so you can dazzle us with your pontifications.

KR I can appreciate you not wanting certian words on your list but I wil disagree and say a deal would make a good game title esp Infinty, but only because it was my suggestion.

Or a cheesy Sci-fi/Fantasy crossover novel… or a MAC computer game:

Escape Velocity is first novel in the Warlock of Gramarye series by Christopher Stasheff, published in 1983.

Escape Velocity is a single-player, role-playing, space-adventure computer game series first introduced in 1996 by Ambrosia Software for the Apple Macintosh. Two other similar games based on the original, EV Override and EV Nova, followed in 1998 and 2002 respectively. In addition there is a trading card game available based around the storyline of the EV Nova universe.

The Stars are Ours! is a 1954 science fiction novel written by Andre Norton. It describes the first interstellar voyage, undertaken to escape the tyranny that rules the Earth.

While an RPG based on Andre Norton’s work would be fun:toast:, I would really want to burn at the stake anyone who made an RPG based on the Warlock of Gramarye series.

Spinward Scout... was that "Star Trekkin Across the Universe"?

Outbound

Far Star

Darkside (because I also had forgotten about Gary Larson)

Dark Matter

Star Farers (though almost a pseudonym for Traveller)

Black Veil

Apogee

Orbital

Galactic Arms (sort of military sounding, or a great name for a future hotel)

Andromeda

Title and Plot Synopsis I'd Like To See:

"Tales of the [ship's name]" - All of a ship's logs are passed through an A.I.-based vocoder, which then assumes that it is the [ship's name]. Not only can it give a running history of all the operational data, but it can play back conversations and video records of significant events. Keep in mind that the ship's maiden voyage was close to 200 years ago, and that the ship itself has changed ownership many times...

Sorta like "Dr. Who" applied to hardware.

Looking at Daneel's list...
Outbound
Far Star
Darkside Sounds like a Star Wars reference to me.
Dark Matter same name as the Alternity Campaign Setting by WOTC
Star Farers
Black Veil
Apogee
Orbital - Orbital Space was a game for the GBA
Galactic Arms
Andromeda Gene Rodenberry TV series by that name.

Suggested before by someone, but has 'Space' been used before?

One keeps sticking in my head, from the Tom Petty song...
