General What's your group like?

Just curious: what is your gaming group like?

Mine = 6 people, Play everything from BECMI to D&D 3.5. CT when i run one or one other person runs one. Mostly D&D, I am the designated replacement DM for a weekend or two. (I run all kinds of stuff, Campaign Trail, Macho Nuns with Guns are two examples). Three of us have been together since 1976. The baby has been with us since 1998.

Completely loyal, I was in the military (Not the only one), Come back ... fall right back into the fold. Went to prison for 4.3 years, come back and fall right back in.

We have a Friday night game, two Saturday games and a Sunday game. Actually we all spend the entire weekend at the hosts house (Since 1998).

We are old school sit around the table and cop a buzz gamers. Optimization? naw, we ddon't need that to have fun, and that is why we play isn't it?

So, what's YOUR group like?

My group is a public meet up group, five people. One is a co-worker, and another is a personal friend. We are still working to gel together, but it has been enjoyable.

Only one other has any experience with Traveller.

Since I don't have a history running for this group, I'm still working to find the best style of adventure for them. The last session was a "traditional" site-based adventure, and they seemed to enjoy it. This weeks session will be more free-from. I've had less success with this style of play with this group, but they have a few more sessions under their belts, so we shall see.

Currently: Marvel Heroic about to start on Wed at the FLGS, Pendragon on Sat at a player's house (was at the FLGS, but the UF MTG Players who can't stop shouting at each other...), Sentinel Comics on Sun via Discord.

Group 1 is 3-6 depending upon who's in town.
Group 2 is a steady 5, having lost one in the change of venue
Group 3 is a steady 4, with 2 others who may or may not show.

I'm the only one over 30 in groups 2 or 3, and one of 2 in group 1. I GM in all three.

I just run quick one-shot Traveller games for people new to role-playing. Teach them how to referee their own games. So I have different players in the group each time.

I've got two groups, with some overlap.

"The Dread Parrots" is a group that have been together for over 3 years now. Started with some folks I met via my FLGS and Meetup.com to run the Pirates of Drinax campaign on MgT1. We have Tony, Chris, Rob, Sam, and sometimes my son Dylan. We get together once a week, at least, and play Traveller that either I or Tony run. We also play Monster of the Week (run by Sam) and Rob is going to try the new Warhammer RPG he just got on Kickstarter. We also play board games sometimes, have BBQs, and have just become a pretty close group of friends. In this group, Chris is the "catalyst" who will guarantee a crit fail on a check at least once a session.

"Kosi's Kids" is the 2nd group that started last spring as a D&D Encounters group at my FLGS. I ran them through "Death House" and then one of the members decided to start a campaign in D&D. I joined them and that ran until the store closed last August, right after we killed Tiamat. So I volunteered to run Traveller with them. The group was Tim (the D&D DM), Stu, Chris (different one), Rob (same from other group), Rich, and myself. We added Brian and Sam (same as other group) and lost Tim over the past year. We play on Wednsday nights a campaign I am running using the Clement Sector. To say this group has ADHD would be an understatement. It takes them 4 hours to go through what most people would do in 1, but we have fun which is all that matters.

And this is why I refer to my apartment as the "Seaford Gaming Center".

My group comes out of an Eve corporation. We all discovered a taste for each other's company with Traveller giving us a deeper gaming experience. I think it would be fair to say they like "blowing sh*t up" rather than the intricacies of my instellar trading economy.

The current crew is around 5 people that used to have up to 7 but one passed away unexpectedly so he and his son are sorely missed. It was a heck of a stumbling block to work past but we are gimping along.

Only one player has had past experience with Traveller as a player with the others either knowing about the game but never played it, or knowing nothing at all about it. The one who had played before (a long time ago) had played in the OTU only and found it kind of a dull place and in hearing mine was not decided to give the game a try again - he's the one who helped get things rolling with the rest of the players. They have all really thrown themselves into the spirit of the game and I haven't had this much fun running it in far too long.

They are all around the same age (mid-30's) and with extensive gaming experience in all sorts of areas, including old hardcore wargames. We play the ones in my stash when not playing Traveller. We get together to play about twice a month though the summer and holidays are sketchy since we have families and all.

I'm wrapping up nearly three years worth of the current campaign with the Big Finish and then we will switch to my Dark Albion Campaign in January.

Just starting a new short game (3-4 sessions) with the existing gaming group, which is primarily D&D. At 54 I am actually one of the younger players although we do have 2 mid-30 year olds.

Of this group, 3 have played Traveller before back in the 70s, one of who came prepared with a lot of the CT stuff. The others have not played before, and the reactions to our character generation (session 0) were mixed. One person really dislikes the whole process, and she would probably prefer a point-buy system to get what she wanted, although she did end up the the skill set she was wanting in the end. Most of the others seemed okay with that process, and one person was extremely happy and enthusiastic.

My guess is that after this month, should we play again, out of the 6 players perhaps 3 may want to continue on and the rest will fall back to D&D. Our group rotates games, so I thought I would see if we could give Traveller a chance. The other game playing this month is Star Wars, so apparently we are all giving fantasy games a rest.
