Which book do I Purchase?

OK everyone as I try to read the reviews of the Traveller Core Book and the Traveller Pocket Book all of these arguments evolve with no actual player preference given. I would like to know the pros and cons of each book. Do I pirchase pocket version or full version? Where I live I have no option of looking at either one to make any decision on my own. I plan on also getting the Spinward Marches book as well as Traders and Gunboats. I mostly ask as I can get errata for both cant I, money isnt the object on only the fact is I cannot afford both of the books. I can afford one or the other but just not both. So please don't go on a flame rampage about mercenary or high guard as I dont care for either of them at this time. Thank you for your responces ahead of time and please dont fight lol.

The most recent printings of the full size hardcover and the pocket edition are supposedly identical except for size. I have not seen the most recent printing of the hardcover to confirm this.

What is unpredictable is whether or not you get the most recent printing when you order. Ordering direct from Mongoose (or ordering the PDF) should ensure the most recent. Ordering through another retailer is less certain.

The current pocket printing has a (trivial) eratta issue solved by a quick read of the Developer's kit. (IE, the answer is in the SRD.)

As I understand it, the Pocket edition is also missing a few sidebars from the big book (the important one being the Jump Drive table?). Other than that, I think the latest printing of the big book (which I have) is identical to the pocket edition in terms of content. depends on your preference!

Its the powerplant fuel table at the base of page 107, and one other footnote that is actually useful instead of fluffy, IIRC.

Well, do you have a preference for format? Because that's really the only meaningful difference, the content is the same.

The pocket edition is compact, paperback and cheaper. It has a very small font size, because it's essentially just a shrunk-down version of the big book (a very poor formatting choice IMO). The only meaningful missing bit is a table which was accidentally left out, but there's a table a couple pages over (at the bottom of "alternate drive technologies" which you can use instead as it has exactly the same values.

The full-size corebook is a regular-size hardcover, somewhat pricey by industry standards but not back-breakingly so. It's certainly easier to read and use in play, but less portable. If you get the latest printing, it replaces the more atrocious bits of art with excellent new pieces, and all of the errors and formatting missteps are fixed.

I'd say go with the pocket edition if expense and/or portability are your primary criteria, and go with the full edition if you really prefer hardback or you're at all uncomfortable with small type.

You can purchase it in PDF format as well. You may want to take a look at sources such as Amazon (they are quiet a bit cheaper).

I took a look at the core rule book in Barnes and Noble and it was about 40 USD. New books are available on Amazon for about $26. If you get lucky you may find a new or "like new" for leass than that.
