Which "The Traveller Book"?

It seems there are two versions of "The Traveller Book". One with the old black with red stripe cover like the LBBs. Another with a cover painting.

What's the difference? Any reason I should prefer one over the other?

They're the same thing ;)

Or nearly so.

The Traveller Book was published as a hardback, with the cover painting on the dust jacket and the CT look underneath on the book proper, and a softcover with the cover painting only.

They are the same inside as far as I know - confession time, I have the hardback version but not the softcover version.

Thus a question for anyone with the softcover Traveller Book: does it say the pulse laser inflicts two hits of damage (in the ship combat section)? ;)

Nope, at least not that I can find in the space combat section. All it says in the ship building section is that Pulse Lasers cause more damage per hit, but no explanation of how that works in combat.

Thanks, that means the softcover Traveller Book must have the same text as the hardcover version.

And that Starter Traveller is the only CT version which gives the damage rating of the pulse laser.

Does anyone have a dust jacket for the hardcover in excellent condition (read: MINT) as I would like 3 colour photocopies to replace mine which got torn? Of course, I would be willing to pay.

Contact me via private message. Thanks.

Well I think there were a couple problems with your request. The idea of making yourself a photocopy of what is after all probably copyright protected art and the requirement that it be in MINT condition. Bad idea on the first part and good luck on the second part.

I have the dustjacket on mine but it's not MINT after all these years. It's not in bad shape, due in large part to my treating it to a clear self-adhesive plastic overlay* as soon as I got it. So it's still in pretty good shape but nowhere near mint. It has some cracking on the spine, and edge and corner wear. I might be convinced to part with it for a reasonable cost since I like the "classic" look just as well (especially on the shelf) and the book doesn't get as much use anymore now that I have the reprint version from QLI.

* the bookstore type, not MacTac(tm)

If that matches your needs drop me a PM or post back here, if not well yes the serch will have to continue. I sincerly wish you success in that case. There's nothing like finding that elusive missing item for a collection.

Hunter, can we get a ruling on this. Surely, a dust jacket photocopy is well within the Fair Use and not a violation of copyright. I know in Canada that I would have to photocopy a third or more to violate copyright.
