Which "The Traveller Book"?

Well there's a big difference between a reduced computer graphic of one side of a cover that's not in mint condition and likely at 80 dpi and a photocopy of a mint color cover. The later would be much easier to pass off as an original. x.x

<shrugs> But I'm no lawyer nor MWM.

Well, I don't think kafka47's intended use falls under the "fair use" doctrine, though the law is a bit vague. Certainly the use of the images on the Traveller Illustrated Bibliography site that daryen used to illustrate the point do come under the "fair use" doctrine.

In Canada as well as the U.K. and Australia the corresponding doctrine is labled "fair dealing" and is a little different but I don't think kafka47's use fits it either.

Sorry to throw a wet blanket on it all if this shakes out as a denial.

Altenatively, maybe you could write Marc Miller and see if he has some spare dust-jackets in boxes somewhere. A long shot but it would be legal and mint condition, and well worth a small renumeration.

On the other hand if Marc, or Hunter on his behalf, will allow it I can scan my cover and email it to you kafka47, perhaps upon receiving a scan or pic of your own torn one or the naked book as proof of ownership. Heck I can probably even retouch the minor edge wear and corners in photoshop and provide you with a "like new" reproduction ready for the local copy-shop to print in full color. Maybe with a small inside flap note that it is a reproduction.

I'll await the ruling of one of the ancients.

And of course IANAL*

* the obligatory "I am not a lawyer." which I should add to the shorthand lexicon on the site here I guess, unless I've been beaten to it

And a lot of what was considered by the courts as fair use has been explicitly altered by legislation recently. (MANY changes in the DMCA, some small but important ones in the Patriot Act, some small riders on other bills.) Additionally, the courts have been stricter in interpreting the laws.

And there are apparently VAST differences now in what the US vs Canada consider fair usages.

IANAL, but I associate with more than one...
