Why do you like your version of Traveller?

Even though I did not agee/like all the material

I always looked forward to seeing/reading the next supplement for CT
JTAS was something I really liked and would love to see done again (I know of several who are doing such via Electronic)

Classic Traveller for me
ever since my brother brought home the big black box
(Deluxe set) one day and we started to play it made an impression

All the classic early stuff just has a certain something, I love the Keith Brothers artwork
too, after that I would say I like Megatraveller too
the virus is a bit dark for me as well

I have to go with the LBBs, myself. Mostly for their flexibility and lack of built-in background. I used the LBBs to run my first TU where the Federation of Star Trek, the Humanx Commonwealth of Alan Dean Foster, and the Galactic Empire of Star Wars all existed at the same time in contact with each other, with different star drive technologies.

You could do =anything= with those LBBs, with enough imagination. And you didn't have to untie anything from the "canon" background.

Yay!!!

Another fan of Humanx!!

I also worked up the Thranx just after I first read it in ~1987 (I never got the GURPS supplement, nor even looked at it until the mid-90s), although they are the only species from ADFoster's universe I did that for. I placed them in Spica sector, "C" subsector, 0505, 0605, 0607, 0706 (Hivehome), 0707, 0804, 0805, 0806, 0807.

I never moved from CT to any other form... started playing in 1983 and Ref'ing in 1984, and couldn't see why I should buy material that made a historical/current events background I didn't like into an integral part of the rules (no longer background).

I ran a standard "tween 4/5 FW period" Spinward Marches/Vanguard Reaches campaign until the very late 1980s.

Since then, I use a somewhat (but not quite) "canonesque" universe, placed just after the "Interstellar Wars" period, with the "2nd Imperium/Rule of Man" replaced by an extended standoff between the Imperium and the Confederation, with a neutral zone covering some subsectors of Zarushagar (O,P), Massila M, N,O, P), & Delphi (M).

I have this ending in one last, massive, catastrophic war, which results in the collapse known as "The Long Night".

I can't run this with any other version of Traveller... GURPS Trav might do it, but I want to play Traveller, not GURPS!!!

Because worldbuilding is more fun to me then role-playing and I want room to build my own pseudocultures. I still use an interpretation of OTU; I just add a bit to the map.

Also I rather like the characters I have created.

OTU: The setting (even the Boring Marches) is simply THE best SciFi RPG setting published. Tried quite a few others, none can compete (FASA did come close with Renegade Legion)

And within the OTU either Gateway or Hard Times. Because they strike the balance between "High Tech Empire" and "Adventure filled border" quite nicely, something that a "believeabel" SM could not do to me.

System: MegaTraveller for the richness in detail (Leaving out is easier than making up) with TNE used for character generation since the TNE chargen gives a lot more careers and details. Don't like TNEs tech base (I DO like the T2K V2.2 rules engine) since it is "too far from Traveller" for my liking.

Oh yes it is, though in fact I don't think the marches are boring. They are getting a bit crowded of late(much of my adventures go around the marches into unknown territory).
