Anyone going to Winter War this year?

Winter War 41 will be held January 24-26, 2014 at the Hawthorn Suites in Champaign, IL.

Winter War is a gaming convention run by our very own T5 guru DonM, and is where a number of CT Traveller adventures, such as Shadows, were first played.

Thanks for the notice. I will put it on my calendar, but not sure now if I can go or not, as we have an out of state trip planned for "late January or early February" to coordinate with wife's relatives, and dates are not confirmed yet.

Then I realized my (teen) daughter is out of town most of the next week. Sigh. Teens travelling = no $.

I think Don McKinney is one of the organizers. I'm going to miss it. If Marc went I'd probably fly from DC to hear him talk.

As QStor noted, Don is one of the ringleaders for Winter War, so he will be there.

That was a lot of fun. Got to see DonM again. Good guy and his wife is really nice, too. Met Ranger, although he doesn't frequent the board much anymore.

And I played Artemis Bridge Simulator. If you ever get a chance to play it, go for it. 6 players controlling a starship bridge. Even when we blew ourselves up it was fun. I played once as a Comm officer, and twice as a Weapons officer. The game needs a Traveller Mod. There are a number of Star Trek Mods out there on the web, too. It requires a computer (laptop?) for each station except the Captain. And we were told you can play it with a First Officer position. You can even play it on tablet computers - which I think would be sweet with touch screens.

That was a blast. Had an hour extra drive time because of the weather, but it was worth the drive.
