What's the species, and is the white blob its abdomen, or more entertainingly an eggsac?
If it is an eggsac then it reminds me of grendels from legacy of hereot. An artistic interpretation can be seen here.

Well, as we seem to be stepping away from the real-life angle of the OP, I like the toe-tapping blob from Dark Star, but as for RL creatures, just take a look down your microscope and multiply by a few thousand!

Look up some pix of prehistoric sea creatures, there were some cool ones.
Also look for some real deep sea creature images, one of them, I heard, actually inspired H.R. Giger to do the drawing that became the titular "Alien".

The little laughing creature that Jabba the Hutt owns reminds me
of a D&D Imp.
Rifts offers a weird variety of stuff, I rather like their Cytoplasmic Blob
(a grapefruit-sized mound of silly putty with what looks like an eyeball
and a handful of minor psionic abilities). I could see placing a few of
those in MTU.
And of course Trek's Tribbles.

It's the abdomen and the spider in question is one of the millions of different types of crab spiders around the world. The would be classified as carnivore pouncers in Traveller since they primarily lurk around the plants the individual species prefer to live among waiting for prey (usually the prey item feeds on that type of plant in some way) to wander by and then they grab it.
They use an incredible variety of ways to blend in thier surroundings. This one, for example, Misumena vatia, can actually change it's colors to blend into the flowers it moves around after sitting in one spot for a couple of hours.

Oh yes, definitely...any one of those would do very nicely in a hunting adventure.
