Rules Only: J-Drive with rating of 1 for 100 ton hull?

As the title asks, is there in any rule set (other than MT) a J1 drive for a 100 ton hull? If so where/what? I remember that in MT it was 2/3 the size (2 Dt) of a J2 drive for a 100 ton hull.

If no other example, do you think that the MT sizing is appropriate for MgT/Cepheus?

TNE can have a J1 drive in a 100 ton ship.

The drive is 2dt in size. TNE Jump drives are (1+Jn)% of hull space, so for J1, (1 + 1)% of 100 tons, 2tons.

You can have a jump 1 drive in a 100t ship in HG, MT, TNE, T4, GT, GT:ISW, MgT1eHG, MgT2e HG.

CT, T5 and MgT1e CRB have a minimum of an A drive so a performance of 2 IIRC.

In my head MgT HG drive rules were for capital ships but you are right. No prohibition using for smaller star ships. Thanks!

You could extrapolate from the Drives and Powerplants table in LBB2.

I laid it out in a now-locked thread, but use the formulae for Jump Drive and Power Plant to make fractional drives (Size "1/2A")*

A 1/2A Jump Drive is 7.5Td and costs MCr5
A 1/2A Power Plant is 2.5Td and costs MCr4
The 1/2A Maneuver Drive can't be extrapolated from the drive table. It would be ZERO Td and MCr2 based on the formula underlying it!
I suppose you could declare it to be 1 ton but only cost MCr2...

This would free up 4 tons and save MCr11.
Unfortunately, it would also mean you couldn't use those 4Td if you stayed with a 100Td Standard Hull (they'd be waste space). A nonstandard streamlined hull costs MCr8 extra, by comparison (MCr11 vs MCr3). A "Flattened Sphere" hull from LBB5 (it's streamlined, but boring) only costs MCr5 more (MCr8) though.

*I did model airplanes back in the day so "1/2A engine" reads to me as a Cox TD .049...

On the other hand, it's only 4Td wasted so maybe just go with the normal standard hull and if the PCs running it get lucky they can upgrade to Size A drives in the same ship.

A LBB2 custom hull costs a minimum of 20 MCr, so a streamlined 100 Dt hull would cost MCr 21. Basically not an option...

Aha, however, minimum default volume remains ten tonnes, carried over from Tee Five, I believe.

You can tweak it to seven tonnes through advanced technology, but parsec tonnes remains the same, two hundred tonnes.

Those would cost more than a 2 rated drive and PP in SRD/Cepheus. I think the HG formula works as it works to recreate the "A" tonnage and price wise so is the correct way to go. I'll post new ship and put link in this thread.

IMTU the 100T Type S hull is no longer made as it is very inefficient unless someone attacks you with a meson weapons. The Standard 100DT hull is now cylindrical capped by hemispheres on each end. In SRD/Cepheus parlance a standard hull config rather than a lifting body.

Two hundred tonner: minimum bridge and jump drive.

Automate it and you could run it with one person.

Yes, the 200 DT is the most common IMTU. Using the AI pgms for astrogation plus repair drones running Engineer programs you can get it down to 1 person and save mucho credits every month.

Use CT 81 crew rules and build your ship with a hull of 199t.

You will need a custom hull, and your drives will be rated for a 200t ship as per the rules, but you can get away with only a pilot for crew.

Not to difficult to find and/or exploit.

It's up to the dungeon master to rule on, but if the player can justify it, why not?
