So, I'm gearing up to run the next leg of my Traveller Hero campaign. The players ended on Regina, at the outbreak of the 5FW. It occurred to me that the one thing I didn't complete was coming up with a set of Rumors.
I don't like to schedule events for my games; rather, I prefer to have the players tell me what they're going to do and have the world react to that. One of the ways I did that previously was having a set of Rumors I could whip out, like the tables in the old CT modules, which gave verisimilitude to the setting.
It would be awesome if we had war-related rumors. If everyone contributes, it'd be even better. I don't know that we'll get to 101, but at least it's a target!
I'll start:
01: A young scout (age 23, 688B84) who works in the Administration office claims that Zhodani ship movement analysis indicates that the Consulate may have developed jump-7 capability. He insists the numbers show that something strange is going on.
02: While in the starport bar, the player overhears a drunk, grizzled marine (age 41, A8A756) talk about a rumor of a psionic cloaking device the Zhodani have developed, and deployed to the Imperial border.
03: A newsreader reports that corporate and Megacorporate interests have moved a lot of capital off-world, and then speculates about corporate intelligence regarding a possible Zhodani assault.
04: A group of repair technicians eating at a restaurant speculate about the possible weakness of Zhodani clamshell helmet design, and drifts off into a discussion about metallurgy.
