A Traveller Movie

Andrew. Love it. Nice one.

People!

Which reminds me. I really must finish off my wedgie animations.

I tried viewing it on MP9, and obviously I don't have the right video codec. I tried looking for updates via MPlayer itself, and no luck. I really want to watch this... anything that prompts WOW with that many exclamations has to be amazing!

(So, hit me with the clue-by-four and let me know what codec I need to find and if you know, where I might find it).

No, it could be nominated for the 2005 year. We just have to find some way to get it nominated.

It is an excellent piece of work!

Here's a suggestion for the next one. How about ground assault. Starship jumps in, flies into the atmosphere and discharges a couple of Gcarriers and a couple of grav tanks. The assault force flies onward and the starship climbs into higher orbit. In the next scene we see the Gcarriers and grav tanks attack and destroy another set of combat vehicles. In the last scene we see a flag lowered off a flagpole, surrounded by the victorous vehicles, and a new flag raised.

Too much?

Hmm...I'll give it a go.

If it was holding it's fire, it waited a bit too long...

I never got around to putting a turret on, so it was unarmed. I guess they weren't expecting to be hit by a grav-seeking missile.

Makes me wish I had gone into animation and CGI instead of traditional SFX. If a real Traveller feature film were ever to be made this is the way it would be done; a cottage industry independent. If you ever get the hankering for going the distance with an hour long episode, and need story material, give me a PM. I didn't major in screenwriting and film production for nothing

p.s. do you have deckplans for that lovely ship making the getaway?

About once a year someone will say, "Hey, let's make a film!", and we'll talk for a while, and nothing will happen. Most of the ideas are (IMHO) too ambitious or specific to their own campaigns. I've got a simpler, more generic story outline somewhere, but nobody seemed interested.

Actually, it was the deckplans that started all this!

The thought crosses my mind occaisionally.

It's well within my ability to do the necessary cgi and bluescreen and editing, it's getting a bunch of Traveller enthusiasts together and organised long enough to film the principle actors is the main problem.

I think a feature length movie is waaaay too ambitious but as long as you weren't pursuing an Oscar, a 20 minute short is doable. Look at all the fanfilms on theforce.net

If you wanted to expand it further then a 'series' of shorts like the fan-made "Star Trek: Hidden Frontier" might be an option. Again, then you'd need a group of Traveller enthusiasts with the necessary skills living close enough to get together on a regular basis.

If it were something that could be done over the net then I'd definately be up for it. A number of people here can do ships. Maybe I could do the aliens...

[edit] - My brain is off. If a group of guys could get together and film the principle actors against a blue screen and/or basic sets (lets face it - there'd be no budget.) then us CGI chaps could drop in the virtual sets behind them and do the external cgi spaceship footage.

Andrew. E-Mail me your treatment. I'd be interested to read it.
