"Additional Rules" booklet for Starter Traveller

Is there a copy of this booklet on the FFE CD-ROM? I can't find it, if there is!

I have a physical copy of the booklet, but strangely of the three Starter sets I have (two Deluxe Starter, one regular Starter), only one came with it: one of the Deluxe Starter boxes. Last night I looked for a PDF of it on the CD-ROM, but I'm coming up empty. Am I just missing it?

There is "Special Supplement 4: The Lost Rules" on the Classic Traveller CD-ROM from FFE, which may be what you are looking for. It includes rules ommissions and changes across all of the editions of Classic Traveller, including Starter Traveller.

That may well include the same information. I'll check it out!

Still, if there's no actual scan of the 8-page Additional Rules booklet available, I'd be happy to provide one to Marc or whomever receives such things on behalf of FFE. I can scan the one copy I have to PDF.

Daft question but what is in the Additional Rules booklet of which you speak?
How big is it?
What does it have on its cover?

Oh! Sorry. I should have described it for anyone who may not have seen one.

It's an 8-page booklet (two 11x17" sheets, printed both sides, folded in half and stapled), printed in B&W. There is no cover.

The Introduction says, "The Starter Traveller Rules Booklet contains a basic set of rules for science-fiction role-playing, although it is only a subset of the game rules presented in The Traveller Book and Basic Traveller. This Additional Rules Booklet includes those rules sections not included in Starter Traveller."

(Incidentally, the booklet is listed on the pack-in flyer that lists the box contents for the one Deluxe Starter Traveller set I own that came with the Additional Rules booklet.)

The sections of the booklet are: Personal Combat (where you get archaic firearms like the hand cannon and percussion rifle), Starships (building custom ships), Starship Combat (the vector movement system in case you don't want to use the range band system from the Basic Set Rulebook), Encounters (Events), Experience, Drugs, and some additional equipment and vehicle listings.

Also included are TAS Forms 3 (both sides), 4, and 7.

The booklet is copyright 1981, 1984.

I have never seen that before.

Looks like I may have to trawl ebay for a while.

It may just be the stuff from TTB that was cut to make Starter, but I still want the booklet lol.

It was a really useful thing, back when, since it brings the Starter Traveller game up to parity with the rest of the line. I'd love to hear the story behind it, and why it seems not to have been included with every Starter Traveller and Deluxe Starter Traveller set. Was it a late addition, perhaps only used for part of the run? Was it the result of feedback from initial sales? Inquiring minds want to know! :)

Interesting, I'd love to peruse this to add to my comparison of the different Classic Traveller editions.

I don't think it's on there. It should be, but all that material is elsewhere, too... most notably, in TTB and Sup 4.

Sure, that's the stated purpose of it -- to bring Starter Traveller more into sync with The Traveller Book and the 1981 LBBs.

But as you say, it should be on the CD-ROM and isn't. Is there someone I should contact at FFE to provide a scan?

It restores the major rules missing as compared to TTB and the LBBs. Not the more subtle rule changes, but the missing rules like vector movement, experience, and drugs.

So it's just the those three major sections, or anything else?

Take a look at my comparison document and let me know if it mentions any of the other differences I've noticed between Starter and TTB:

To OP GM Joe;

I don't suppose you can remember the year you bought the set with this booklet in it can you?
I have a suspicion that it was probably late in the life of CT and it was produced to use up stocks of deluxe boxes - I know they made a deluxe set with the softback Traveller Book in it.
